T&G 2004-2005 Indoor Track & Field All-Stars Announced

April 10, 2005 - Senior Craig Fiore was selected a Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-Star for capturing the 1000 meters at the District E, Division I Championships held at Fitchburg High School on February 12.


Fiore Named Mid-Wach A 2004-2005 Indoor Track & Field All-Star

March 21, 2005 - Senior Co-Captain Craig Fiore was named a Midland-Wachusett A League and Telegram & Gazette All-Star for 2003-2004 indoor track & field season, for capturing first place in the 1000 meters in both the Midland-Wachusett A League Championships, and District E, Division I Championships.

The Red Raiders hope addtional honors will come there way as they await the announcement of the 2004-05 Sentinel & Enterprise Indoor Track & Field All-Star Team, which should be published in the next few weeks.


Red Raiders Celebrate The 2004-2005 Season

March 17, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the 2004-2005 indoor season at the end of the season banquet held Thursday night in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria.

Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were senior Craig Fiore, Most Valuable Performer; seniors Andrew Carreiro and Phil McCormack, Coaches’ Award; sophomore Garrett Malouin, Most Improved Runner; and Johann Schuerman, Freshman Award. These athletes, along with eleven others, earned the right to wear the "F" by earning Varsity status, for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track and field.

Coach Woods and Coach Moore would like to personally congratulate the team, and their parents, along with everyone else who contributed to the program's success throughout the 2004-2005 season. Special thanks also is extended to girls' head Coach Steve "Shifty" LeBlanc, who concluded his 25th and final indoor track & field season, after announcing his retirement earlier this winter.


Indoor Track & Field Banquet Postponed Due To Inclement Weather
Rescheduled For Thursday, March 17

March 8, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men's and women's indoor track & field end of season banquet scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m., in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria, has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 17, same time, same place.

Fiore Finishes Twelth In The 1000 Meters

March 4, 2005 - Competing in the final indoor track & field meet of his career Fitchburg High School senior Craig Fiore represented the Red Raiders in his specialty, the 1000 meters, where he finished twelth overall at the 18th Annual New England Track & Field Championships held Friday night at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College. Fiore's time of 2:36.60 came out of the seeded heat, that included the top runners from six different states, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.


Red Raiders Finish Fifteenth
At M.S.T.C.A. Pentathlon

March 2, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team ran to a fifteenth place finish at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches' Pentathlon held Wednesday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Junior Will Schuerman led the Red Raiders finishing 44th out of 102 athletes, by scoring 2,412 points in the five event competition comprised of the 55 meter high hurdles, the long jump, the high jump, the shot put, and the 1000 meter run. Schuerman’s points combined with the points scored by fellow juniors David Cosenza, 65th place, 2,118 points, and Malcolm Wilbur, 67th place, 2,043 points, accounted for the team’s total of 6,573 points, and Fitchburg’s overall place in the meet.


Fiore Breaks School Record Again In The 1000 Meters
3200 Relay Team Runs Season Best

February 25, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s track & field team turned in two season bests, including a school record at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association's All-State Track & Field Championships held Friday night at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Senior Craig Fiore broke his own school record again in the 1000 meters, running 2:34.32, to finish sixth, which also qualifies him for next Friday's New England Championship scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

The 3200 meter relay team comprised of sophomore Garrett Malouin, junior Mike Carbone, senior Phil McCormack and Fiore, ran a season best, finishing fifteenth overall in 8:29.12.

Fitchburg’s next meet will be the Massachusetts State Track Coaches’ Association Pentathlon, scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m., and will also be held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.


2004-2005 Indoor Track & Field
Announces End of Season Banquet Date

February 19, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men's and women's indoor track & field teams will celebrate the conclusion of the indoor season at an end of season banquet scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m., in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria.

A mailing was sent out to athletes and parents this week providing further details on the evening, which will include certificates of recognition for our athletes efforts, along with individual awards for Most Valuable Performer; Coaches’ Award; Most Improved; and the Freshman Award. Varsity athletes will receive the right to wear the "F", for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track & field.

Coach Woods, Coach LeBlanc, Coach Lavers, and Coach Moore would like to personally congratulate the 2004-2005 teams and all others who contributed to the program’s success throughout the indoor season.


Red Raiders Qualify For All-State Final
Fiore Lowers 1000 Meter Record Again

February 18, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team placed in two events to finish twelth overall at the 88th Annual State Indoor Track & Field Division II Championships held Friday evening at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Senior Craig Fiore lowered his own school record in the 1000 meters, finishing second in 2:36.66. Fiore then teamed with sophomore Garrett Malouin, senior Phil McCormack, and junior Mike Carbone in the 3200 meter relay to finish fourth in a season best 8:33.20. Fiore and the 3200 meter relay team will represent Fitchburg High School at next Friday's M.I.A.A. Indoor All-State Track & Field Meet starting at 4:30 p.m.

Also representing the Red Raiders was the 800 meter relay team comprised of junior Will Schuerman, freshman Alex Mercado, and juniors Dave Cosenza and Malcolm Wilbur, which finished twelth in 1:40.20; and the 1600 meter relay team comprised of senior Andrew Carreiro, junior Mike Bellio, Schuerman, and McCormack, which finished sixteenth in 3:48.89.


Fiore Wins District Title In 1000 Meters
Red Raiders Finish Eleventh In District E, Division I Meet

February 12, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished eleventh overall in the 27th Annual District E, Division I Indoor Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday afternoon in the Fitchburg High School field house. The meet featured one facility record, as Tim Cunningham of Wachusett Regional lowered the standard in the two mile run by 1.3 seconds, breaking the previous mark shared by Bryan Marotta, of Fitchburg, and former Wachusett Regional teammate Dan Sullivan, set back in 2002.

The Red Raiders leading point scorer in the meet was co-captain Craig Fiore, who captured the 1000 meters in 2:42.42, and then teamed with Garrett Malouin, co-captain Phil McCormack, and Mike Carbone to finish fifth in the two mile relay in 9:08.95. The 880 relay team comprised of Malcolm Wilbur, Alex Mercado, Dave Cosenza, and Will Schuerman also scored for Fitchburg finishing sixth overall in 1:45.73.

Also competing for the Red Raiders were McCormack, 600 meters, eighth, 1:33.34; Malouin, two mile run, ninth, 11:00.04; Andrew Carreiro, 55 meter dash, ninth, 7.17; Wilbur, 55 meter dash, 7.17, tenth; the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Carreiro, Mercado, Cosenza, and Schuerman, tenth, 4:00.08; Derek Paine, shot put, twenty-first, 34' 11.5"; and Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, twenty-second, 9.72.

The Red Raiders now focus their efforts on preparing for this Friday’s M.I.A.A. 88th Annual Indoor State Division II Track & Field Meet, to held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College, scheduled to get under way at 4:30 p.m.



Fiore Finishes Seventh At Invitational
3200 Relay Team Turns In Valiant Effort

February 5, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was represented by senior Craig Fiore in the 1000 meters, and the 3200 meter relay team comprised of senior Phil McCormack, junior Mike Carbone, and sophomore, Garrett Malouin, at the first ever Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Boys' Elite Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College. The field in all the events was comprised of the top twenty-four athletes and relay teams in the state, and competed by invitation only.

Fiore narrowly missed his own school record in the 1000 meters, running 2:37.28, in the seeded heat, finishing seventh overall. The relay team competed in the seeded heat as well, running 6:32.4 after three legs, but Fiore was unable to finish the fourth leg, and the team did not finish.

The Red Raiders host the District E Track & Field Championships this Saturday, with the Division I Meet scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Run Well At State Relays
3200, 1600, and 800 Meter Relay Teams Qualify For State Class B Championships

January 30, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in several fine performances Sunday afternoon at the 28th Massachusetts State Coaches Class B Indoor Track & Field Relay Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

The Red Raiders’ 3200 meter relay team comprised of Craig Fiore, Mike Carbone, Phil McCormack, and Garrett Malouin ran to a third place finish in 8:35.80, which qualifies them for the State Class B Championships on February 18. Also qualifying for the State Class B Championships was the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Fiore, Carbone, McCormack, and Mike Bellio, which finished tenth in 3:44.70; and the 800 meter relay team comprised of Mike Johnson, Dave Cosenza, William Schuerman, and Malcolm Wilbur, which finished sixteenth in 1:39.94.

Also competing for the Red Raiders was the 50 yard dash shuttle team comprised of Johnson, Wilbur, Eldred Wright, and Andrew Carreiro, eighth, 23.53; the shot put relay team comprised of Derek Paine, Brian Withington, and Matt Fraticelli, fourteenth, 109' 8.25"; the long jump team comprised of William Schuerman, Cosenza, and Wilbur, seventeenth, 49' 10.5"; the 50 yard shuttle hurdle team comprised of Johann Schuerman, Lekan Bamgbose, Conrad Hanno, and Glenn Lemieux, nineteenth, 37.25; the sprint medley relay team comprised of Mike Alamed, Paine, William Soto, and Alex Mioduszewski, twenty-eighth, 4:28.34; and the high jump team comprised of William Schuerman, Cosenza, and Johnson.

Running as "B" Teams for the Red Raiders was the 800 meter relay team comprised of Johnny Gomez, Alex Mercado, T.J. Bujold, and Bamgbose, twenty-seventh, 1:48.52; and the 50 yard shuttle dash team comprised of Gomez, Mercado, Bujold, and Fraticelli, twenty-ninth, 25.46.

The Red Raiders travel back to the Reggie Lewis Center next Saturday to compete in the M.S.T.C.A. Elite Invitational Track & Field Meet with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Finish Fifth In Mid-Wach A

January 29, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team clinched fifth place overall in Mid-Wach A by finishing fifth at the Mid-Wach A Championships held Saturday afternoon in the Fitchburg High School Field House. The final scores in the meet were Wachusett Regional, 81, Shrewsbury, 76, Algonquin Regional, 77.33, Milford, 43, Fitchburg, 37, Leominster, 34, and North Middlesex Regional, 32.

The Red Raiders were led by senior Craig Fiore, who finished first in the mile run with a time of 4:53.0. Junior Mike Johnson was a surprising second in the high jump clearing 5' 10". Johnson then combined with Malcolm Wilbur, Alex Mercado, and Dave Cosenza, to finish second in the 880 yard relay with a time of 1:45.6. Also placing in the top six for Fitchburg were Wilbur in the 55 meter dash, fourth, 7.1; the mile relay team comprised of Mike Bellio, William Schuerman, Phil McCormack, and Andrew Carreiro, fourth, 3:56.6; Garrett Malouin, two mile, fifth, 10:50.2; and the two mile relay team comprised of Mike Alamed, Devon Glenny, Malouin, and Russ White, sixth, 10:05.4.

Fitchburg High School will compete tomorrow afternoon in the 28th Annual M.S.T.C.A. State Coaches Class B Indoor Relays at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury with that meet scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.


St. John's Defeats Red Raiders

January 19, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team lost their final dual meet of the season Wednesday night, falling to St. John's of Shrewsbury, 67.5-18.5, in the Fitchburg High School Field House.

Senior co-captain Craig Fiore picked up Fitchburg's only first place performace in the meet, winning the mile in a season best 4:43.2. Second place performances were turned in by Garret Malouin in the 2 mile, 10:56.9; Phil McCormack in the 600 meters, 1:32.3; and Will Schuerman in the high jump, 5' 4". Completing the scoring with third place performances were Matt Fraticelli, shot put, 35' 11"; Mike Johnson, 55 meter dash, 7.0; Malcomb Wilbur, 300 meters, 41.5; Mike Carbone, mile, 4:55.9; and Dave Cosenza in the high jump, 5' 4".

The Red Raiders travel to the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center this coming Sunday afternoon to compete in the State Class B Relays with that meet scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Swept Again

January 17, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team was swept for the second time this season, falling to Shrewsbury, 55-31, and Wachusett Regional, 67-19, in a double-dual meet held Monday morning at the Shrewsbury High School Field House.

Against Shrewsbury Craig Fiore captured the 600 meters in 1:30.4, and then combined with Mike Bellio, Andrew Carreiro, and Mike Carbone to win the mile relay in 3:58.6. Individual wins went to Garrett Malouin, 2 mile, 11:07.2; Carbone, mile, 4:54.9; and Phil McCormack, 1000 meters, 2:53.2. William Schuerman was runner-up in the 55 meter dash, 7.0, and third in the 300 meters, 41.7. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Malouin in the 1000 meters, 3:01.5; and Dave Cosenza in the high jump, 5' 6".

Versus Wachusett Regional the Red Raiders had one first place performance from Fiore in the 600 meters, while scond place performances went to Schuerman in the 55 meter, Carbone in the mile; McCormack in the 1000 meters; and Cosenza in the high jump. Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Malouin, 2 mile; Derek Paine, shot put, 33' 9"; and Schuerman in the 300 meters.

The Red Raiders host St. John's of Shrewsbury Wednesday night with that meet scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m.


Red Raiders Finish Thirteenth At State Team Pentathlon
Fiore Breaks School Record In 1000 Meters

January 15, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team ran to a thirteenh place finish at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches' Association's Team Pentathlon held Saturday morning at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Senior co-Captain Craig Fiore lowered the Pentathlon school record for the 1000 meters set in 2003 with a time of 2:37.11, which also eclipsed the Fitchburg High School record for that event set by Everette Pankey in 2004. Also representing Fitchburg High School in the unique five event meet were juniors William Schuerman, long jump, 17’ 7"; and Dave Cosenza, high jump, 5' 2"; sophomore Derek Paine, shot put, personal best, 38' 10.5", and freshman Johan Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 10.26.

The Red Raiders travel to Shrewsbury Monday morning to make-up their double-dual meet versus Shrewsbury and Wachusett Regional with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Earn Split
Defeat Patriots, But Fall To Blue Devils

January 12, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team earned a split in their double-dual meet Wednesday night at the Fitchburg High School Field House, defeating the North Middlesex Regional Patriots, 52-34, but falling to the Leominster Blue Devils, 46-40.

Against North Middlesex Craig Fiore and Malcomb Wilbur won two events each, as Fiore captured the mile in 4:47.8 and the 1000 meters, 2:48.9; while Wilbur picked up first place performances in the 55 meter dash 7.1 and the 300 meters in 41.0 Individual wins went to Mike Carbone in the two mile, 10:59.5; Phil McCormack, 600 meters, 1:34.1; and the mile relay team comprised of Andrew Carreiro, Mike Bellio, McCormack, and William Schuerman, 4:01.1. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 9.9; Will Schuerman, 300 meters, 41.2; Carbone, 1000 meters, 2:52.9; and Dave Cosenza, high jump, 5' 4". Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Brian Withington, shot put, 35' .25"; Lekan Bamgbose, 55 meter high hurdles, 10.6; Bellio, 600 meters, 1:38.9; Garrett Malouin, 1000 meters, 2:53.8; and Wilbur, high jump, 5'.

Versus Leominster the Red Raiders had first place performances from Fiore in the mile and 1000 meters; McCormack in the 600 meters; Cosenza in the high jump; and the mile relay comprised of Carreiro, Bellio, McCormack, and Schuerman. Second place went to Carbone in the two mile and 1000 meters; and Wilbur in the 55 meter dash and 300 meters. Third place finishes went to Withington in the shot put; Bellio in the 600 meters; Will Schuerman in the 300 meters, 41.2; amnd Malouin in the 1000 meters.

The Red Raiders travel to the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic center on Saturday morning to compete in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches' Association's Team Pentathlon with that meet scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.


Freshmen-Sophomores Perform Well At 21st Annual Auerbach Meet

January 9, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in a number of fine performances Sunday morning at the 21st Annual Red Auerbach Freshman-Sophomore Developmental Meet held at the Reggie Lewis Track Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Personal best performances for the Red Raiders were turned in by sophomore Garrett Malouin, who finished ninth overall in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:53.99. For the freshmen season best performances were turned in by Alex Mercado, long jump, 15', and 300 meters, 44.09; and Glen Lemieux, 55 meter high hurdles, 12.73.

Also competing well for the Red Raiders were sophomore Derek Paine, shot put, 34’ 2"; and freshman Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 10.76. The 1600 meter relay team comprised of sophomores Paine, T.J. Bujold, and freshmen Johnny Gomez, and Mercado finished in 4:08.70.

The boys host arch-rival Leominster, and North Middlesex Regional, in a double-dual meet this Wednesday night in the Field House. The double-dual meet versus Shrewsbury and Wachusett Regional postponed due to this past Saturday's snow storm will be rescheduled at a later date yet to be determined.


Red Raiders Run Well At Winter Festival Track Meet
Fiore Lowers Standard For 600 Meters

December 18, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team turned in some season bests and personal records, including one school record at the 2004 Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association's Winter Festival Track Meet held Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Senior Craig Fiore finished third in the 600 meters, with a time of 1:25.42, which lowered his own school record in this event set last season by 1.09 seconds. Turning in season bests were Derek Paine, shot put, 36' 5.5"; Eldred Wright, 55 meter dash, 7.15; Lekan Bamgbose, 55 meter dash, 7.94; Mike Bellio, 600 meters, 1:36.02; Will Schuerman, 300 meters, 40.59; Afolabi Ogunleye. 300 meters, 42.80; Phil McCormack, 1000 meters, 2:50.11; and the 800 meter relay team comprised of Michael Johnson, Andrew Carreiro, Schuerman, and Malcolm Wilbur, 1:41.68.

Also competing in the meet were Johnson and Dave Cosenza, high jump, 5' 2", and 5', respectively; in the 55 meter dash, Johnson, 7.17; Wilbur, 7.26; Carreiro, 7.34; Johnny Gomez, 7.77; and Alex Mercado, 7.78; Mike Carbone, mile, 5:07.97; and the 800 meter relay team comprised of Gomez, Bamgbose, Paine, and Mercado, 1:50.59.

The Red Raiders travel to Shrewsbury Saturday, January 8, to take on the Shrewsbury Colonials and the Wachusett Regional Mountaineers with that meet getting underway at 9:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Swept In Season Opener

December 15, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team was swept in their season opener in a double-dual meet held Wednesday evening at the Fitchburg High School Field House. The Red Raiders were defeated 51.5 to 34.5 by the Algonquin Regional Tomahawks, and 48.5 to 37.5 by the Milford Scarlet Hawks.

Against Algonquin Craig Fiore captured the 1000 meters, 2:47.2 and the mile, 5:01.7; while Mike Carbone, two mile, 10:50.7; Derek Paine, shot put, 33' 3.25"; and Michael Johnson, 55 meter dash, 6.9, won one event each. Earning runner-up positions were Brian Withington, shot put, 33' 1.5", and Phil McCormack, 600 meters, 1:34.5. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Andrew Carreiro and Eldred Wright, 55 meter dash, tie, 7.1; Johnson, 300 meters, 41.4; Carbone, 1000 meters, 2:56.6; and Malcomb Wilbur, William Schuerman, and Johnson, high jump, tie, 5'.

Versus Milford the Red Raiders had first place performances from Fiore in the mile and 1000 meters; Carbone in the two mile; McCormack in the 600 meters; and the mile relay team comprised of Carreiro, Schuerman, Mike Bellio, and McCormack, 3:59.1. Second place went to Johnson in the 55 meter dash and 300 meters, while third place finishes went to Devan Glenny, two mile, 11:43.6; Paine in the shot put; Johan Schuerman in the 55 meter high hurdles, 10.6; Carreiro in the 55 meter dash; Bellio in the 600 meters, 1:39.9; Afolabi Ogunleye, 300 meters, 43.3; and Carbone in the 1000 meters.

The Red Raiders travel to the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Roxbury Saturday morning to compete in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Winter Festival Track Meet with the meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Perform Well At Mid-Wach League "Johnny Wallace" Jamboree

December 11, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in a number of top performances Saturday at the Mid-Wach League "Johnny Wallace" Jamboree held Saturday afternoon at the Fitchburg High School Field House.

The Red Raiders were led by the first place performance of Craig Fiore, who ran the fastest time in the 600 meters with a time of 1:29.6. Also cracking the top six were: Mike Carbone, mile, 4:59.7, second; Phil McCormack, 1000 meters, 2:55.8, second; Mike Johnson, high jump, 5' 6", third; and Malcolm Wilbur, 55 meter dash, 7.0, fifth.

Also competing for Fitchburg by event were: 55 meter dash: Johnson, 7.1; Eldred Wright, 7.1; Andrew Carreiro, 7.2; Mike Dateo, 7.4; Johnny Gomez, 7.4; Alex Mercado, 7.5; Tony Ventura, 7.6; T.J. Bujold, 7.6; William Soto, 7.8; Johann Schuerman, 7.8; Bill Nguyen, 8.0; Usman Bamgbose, 8.0; Eric Faucher, 8.3; Chris Cormier, 8.3; Luis Suarez, 8.4; and Steven Merced, 8.5.
