Red Raiders Celebrate The 2006-2007 Season

March 21, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the 2006-2007 indoor season at the end of the season banquet held Wednesday night in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria.

Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were seniors Garrett Malouin and Derek Paine, Most Valuable Athletes; senior Adam Boudreau, Coaches’ Award; junior Johann Schuerman, Most Improved Athlete; freshmen Noah Marceau and Tyler Boudreau, Freshman Award; and Steve Silvar, the annual Bull Goose Loony Award (in memory of throwing Coach Jack Jerszyk). These athletes, along with the rest of the team, earned the right to wear the "F" by earning Varsity status, for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track and field.

Coach Woods and Coach Moore, and girls' head Coach Mike Lavers, would like to personally congratulate the team, and their parents, along with everyone else who contributed to the program's success throughout the 2006-2007 season.


Malouin Selected Mid-Wach A 2006-2007
Indoor Track & Field All-Star For Second Consecutive Year

February 12, 2007 - Senior Garrett Malouin was selected a Midland-Wachusett A League All-Star for the 2006-2007 indoor track & field season. Malouin achieved this honor, when he was selected by Mid-Wach A League coaches for his contributions throughout the indoor track & field season.

Malouin, along with the rest of the men's indoor track & field team, will be honored for their efforts at an end-of-the season team banquet, at a future date yet to be announced.


Paine Finishes Fifth In The Shot Put
Mile Relay Runs Fastest Field House Time Of The Season

February 10, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished sixthteenth overall in the 29th Annual District E, Division I Indoor Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday afternoon at the Douglass P. Grutchfield field house. The day featured five facility records in the high jump, 600 meters, 880 yard relay, mile relay, and the two mile relay.

The Red Raiders only points in the meet came from senior Derek Paine, who finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 41'. The mile relay team comprised of Johann Schuerman, Adam Boudreau, Jaime Matias, and Garrett Malouin turned in their fastest time of the season in the field house, finishing seventh in 3:56.84. Paine And Silvar Represent Red Raiders At M.S.T.C.A. Invitational

February 3, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team were represented by senior Derek Paine, and junior, Steve Silvar, who competed in the shot put, at the 44th Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday at the Robert McIntyre Track and Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Paine finished sixteenth with a season best throw of 43' 4.5", while Silvar was twentieth with a throw of 42' 3.25". For complete results of today's meet visit Cool Running.

Red Raiders Finish Seventh In Mid-Wach A

January 27, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished seventh overall in Mid-Wach A by finishing seventh at the Mid-Wach A Championships held Saturday morning in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House. The final scores in the meet were Wachusett Regional, 99, Shrewsbury, 60, Leominster, 54, North Middlesex Regional, 52, Milford, 46, Algonquin Regional, 42, and Fitchburg, 19.

The Red Raiders were led by their shot putters, Steve Silvar and Derek Paine, who finished second, 43' .75', and third, 43' .5", respectively. Also scoring points for Fitchburg were Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, fifth, 8.8; the two mile relay team comprised of Chris Carbone, Matt Reid, Brad Malouin, and Cameron Trodello, fifth, 9:43.5; and the mile relay team comprised of Adam Boudreau, Schuerman, Jaime Matias, and Glenn Lemieux, sixth, 4:05.4.

Also representing Fitchburg were Ryan Lavorati, shot put, 32' 10.5"; Noah Marceau, Schuerman, and Tim Douglas, high jump, 5' 4", 5', and NH, respectively; Tyler Boudreau, 55 meter high hurdles, 11.0; Mareau, 300 meters, 42.1; and the 880 yard relay team comprised of Paine, Douglas, Marceau, and Silvar, 1:49.7. Red Raiders Swept Again

January 20, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was swept again in their fianl double-dual meet of the season Saturday morning, losing to the Westborough Rangers, 64-26, and the Nashoba Regional Chieftans, 52-35, in the Douglass P. Grutchfield field house.

Against the Rangers the Red Raiders had first place finishes from Garrett Malouin, 600 meters, 1:30.7; Derek Paine, shot put, 41' 10.25"; and the 880 relay team comprised of Joel Gomez, Anthony Colon, Noah Marceau, and John Mendez, 1:45.7. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.7; Jaime Matias, 600 meters, 1:36.5; and Steve Silvar, shot put, 40' 3". Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Silvar, 55 meter dash, 7.1; and Gomez, 300 meters, 40.8.

Versus the Chieftans the Red Raiders had first place performances from Malouin, 600 meters; Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles; Paine, shot put; and the mile relay team comprised of Malouin, Schuerman, Adam Boudreau, and Matias, 4:03.7. Finishing second were Chris Carbone, mile, 5:25.8; Brad Malouin, 1000 meters, 3:07,8; and Silvar, shot put; while third place performances went to Silvar, 55 meter dash; Tim Douglas, 55 meter high hurdles, 9.5; Boudreau, mile, 5:38.2; Matias, 600 meters; Gomez, 300 meters; and Ryan Lavorati, shot put, 34' 8", to complete the scoring. Red Raiders Swept Under

January 17, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was swept in a double-dual meet held Wednesday night in the Wachusetts Regional field house, losing to the Shrewsbury Colonials, 69-22, and the Wachusett Regional Mountaineers, 83-18.

Against the Colonials the Red Raiders were led by Johann Schuerman, who won the high jump with a leap of 5' 4", finished second in the 55 meter high hurdles, 8.9, and combined with Adam Boudreau, Chris Carbone, and Garrett Malouin to win the mile relay in 4:02.5. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Malouin, two mile, 10:42.2; Johnny Gomez, 55 meter dash, 6.8; Steve Silvar, shot put, 41' 9.25"; and Joel Gomez, 600 meters, 1:36.5. Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Derek Paine, shot put, 40' 11.5"; and John Mendez, 300 meters, 41.5.

Versus the Mountaineers the Red Raiders had a first place performance from Boudreau, Carbone, Schuerman, and Malouin in the mile relay. Finishing second were Malouin, two mile; Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles; and Silvar, shot put; while third place performances went to Tim Douglas in the high jump, 4' 10"; Gomez, 55 meter dash; Paine, shot put; and Mendez, 300 meters to complete the scoring. Red Raiders Shine At State Relays
Sprint Medley Team Shatters School Record

January 14, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team turned in several fine performances Sunday morning at the 30th Massachusetts State Coaches' Association's Class A Indoor Track & Field Relay Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

The Red Raiders were led by the 10th place finish of the sprint medley relay team comprised of Garrett Malouin, Johnny Gomez, John Mendez, and Joel Gomez, which shattered the previous school record set in 2000 by 12.23 seconds with a time of 3:50.45. Also finishing 10th was the shot put relay team comprised of Derek Paine, Steve Silvar, and Ryan Lavorati, which combined for a total distance of 117' 11.75". Steve Silvar's indivual throw of 45' 7.75" improved his previous best by 3' 9.75", which qualified him for the Division I State Qualifier on February 16. Also qualifying for the Division I State Qualifier was the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Adam Boudreau, Garrett Malouin, Johann Schuerman, and Joel Gomez, which finished 20th in 3:44.76.

Also competing for the Red Raiders was the 50 yard dash shuttle "A" team comprised of Johnny Gomez, Mendez, Silvar and Paine, 28th, 24.35, and the 50 yard dash shuttle "B" team comprised of Adam Barrett, Mike Descoteaux, Tyler Boudreau, and Anthony Colon, 39th, 26.05; the 800 meter relay "A" team comprised of Adam Boudreau, Tim Douglas, Schuerman, and Silvar, 43rd, 1:46.17, and the 800 meter relay "B" team comprised of Barrett, Colon, Ethan Diaz, and Descoteaux, 45th, 1:51.15; and the distance medley relay team comprised of Glenn Lemieux, Jaime Matias, Bradley Malouin, and Chris Carbone, 26th, 12:28.26. Red Raiders Can't Stay With Algonquin

January 10, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track and field couldn't keep up with Algonquin Regional, losing to the Tomahawks, 59-32, in dual meet held Wednesday night in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Leading the team in the meet were co-captains Garrett Malouin and Derek Paine, as Malouin captured the 1000 meters in 2:51.7, and finished second in the two mile, 10:38.4; while Paine won the shot put with a throw of 41' 10.5", and ran a leg on the mile relay comprised of Brad Malouin, Adam Boudreau, and Johann Schuerman, which also finished first in 4:11.8.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.9; Steve Silvar, shot put, 41' 10.5", and 55 meter dash, 7.2; and Joel Gomez, 600 meters, 1:34.6 Completing the scoring by finishing third were Chris Carbone, mile, 5:15.0; and John Mendez, 300 meters, 41.6. Red Raiders Drop Third Straight To Milford

January 6, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track and field team dropped it's third straight dual meet Saturday morning, losing to Milford, 62-28, at the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

The Red Raiders were once again led by Garrett Malouin, who won two events, the two mile, 10:56.4, and the 1000 meters, 2:51.1. Derek Paine also finished first, winning the shot put, with a throw of 41' 2.25". Finishing second for Fitchburg were Ryan Lavorati, shot put, 34' 9"; John Mendez, 300 meters, 41.6; and Jaime Matias, 600 meters, 1:38.2. Blue Devils Run By Red Raiders

January 3, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team were defeated in their second dual meet of the season Wednesday night, falling to arch-rival Leominster, 60-31, in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Fitchburg was led by Garrett Malouin, who finished first in the two mile, 10:39.3, and second in the 1000 meters, 2:51.4. Also finishing first for the Red Raiders were Derek Paine in the shot put, 40' 1.5"; Johnny Gomez in the 55 meter dash, 7.0; and Joel Gomez in the 600 meters, 1:35.1.

Second place performances went to Steve Silvar in the shot put, 38' 11.25"; and Noah Marceau in the high jump, 5' 4". FHS Sophomores-Freshmen Shine At Mid-Wach Invitational Meet

December 27, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in a number of top performances Wednesday morning at the Mid-Wach Sophomore/Freshmen Invitational Meet held at Marlborough High School.

Sophomore Joel Gomez led the way finishing second in the 40 meter dash, 5.4, and led off the 800 meter relay team comprised of freshmen Noah Marceau and Adam Barrett, and sophomore Anthony Colon, which also finished second in 1:56.7. Also placing in the top six were: Marceau, high jump, third, 5’ 2”; sophomore Ryan Lavorati, shot put, third, 33’ 1”; and Barrett, high jump, sixth, 4’ 6”.

Also competing well for the Red Raiders were freshman Tyler Boudreau, 40 meter hurdles; Colon, 40 meter dash; Marceau, 40 meter dash; freshman Mike Descoteaux, high jump and 300 meters; and sophomore Ethan sophomore, shot put, and 40 meter dash. Patriot Thinclads Outrun Red Raiders

December 16, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team lost their season opener Saturday morning, as the Patriots of North Middlesex Regional outran the Red Raiders, 58.5-32.5, in the Fitchburg High School Field House.

Garrett Malouin was the top point scorer for the Red Raiders, finishing first in two events, the 600 meters, 1:31.9, and the 1000 meters, 2:46.9. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Johan Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.9, and the high jump, 5’ 2”; Devan Glenny, mile, 5:04.9, and 1000 meters, 3:02.7; Derek Paine, shot put, 40’ .25”; and Joel Gomez, 300 meters, 40.1. December 9, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in a number of top performances Saturday morning at the Mid-Wach League "Don Woods" Memorial Invitational held at the Fitchburg High School field house.

The Red Raiders were led by the first place performance of Garrett Malouin, who captured the 600 meters in 1:30.4. Also cracking the top six were: Derek Paine, shot put, second, 41’ 3.75”; Joel Gomez, 300 meters, second, 40.6; Steve Silvar, shot put, fifth, 38’ 7.75”, and 55 meter dash, sixth, 7.2; and Johan Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, sixth, 9.0.
