Red Raiders Celebrate The 2007-2008 Season

March 5, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the 2007-2008 indoor track & field season at the end of the season banquet held Wednesday night in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria.

Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were senior Ismail Disu, Most Valuable Athlete; senior Jaime Matias, Coaches’ Award; sophomore Patrick Hodges, Most Improved Athlete; and freshman Jon Vander Hamm Freshman Award. These athletes, along with the rest of the team, earned the right to wear the "F" by earning Varsity status, for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track and field.

Coach Woods and Coach Paine, and girls' head Coach Mark Ambrose, would like to personally congratulate the team, and their parents, along with everyone else who contributed to the program's success throughout the 2007-2008 season.


Silvar, 800 Meter Relay Team Prove They Belong

February 17, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team proved they belonged, exceeding their qualifying marks at the 91st Annual State Indoor Track & Field Division I Championships held Sunday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Senior Steve Silvar exceeded his position in the meet as the 26th seed, finishing 20th in the shot put with a throw of 42' 5"; while the 800 meter relay comprised of Ismail Disu, Patrick Hodges, Jaime Matias, and Joel Gomez, improved on their 29th seed position, to finish twelfth with a season best 1:36.56. The 2007-2008 indoor track & field team will be honored for their efforts at an end-of-the season team "pot luck" dinner on Wednesday, March 5th, starting at 6:00 p.m, in the Fitchburg High School "Cafe".


Silvar Finishes Fourth In The Shot Put
880 Relay Continues To Shine

February 9, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished twelfth overall in the 30th Annual District E, Division I Indoor Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday afternoon at the Douglass P. Grutchfield field house. The day featured four facility records in the high jump, 300 meters,55 meter high hurdles, and mile relay.

The Red Raiders had two fourth place performances in the meet, as senior Steve Silvar had a season best throw in the shot put, 44’ .5”, while the 880 yard relay team comprised of Ismail Disu, Patrick Hodges, Jaime Matias, and Joel Gomez scored their points with a time of 1:43.04. Sixth place points were scored by Disu in the 55 meter dash, 7.20, and Noah Marceau in the high jump, 5’ 7”. Also representing Fitchburg in the meet were Johann Schuerman, Anthony Colon, Matias, and Hodges, mile relay, 4:09.17, tenth; Schuerman in the 55 meter high hurdles, 8.93, eleventh; and Derrick Kwan in the high jump. Silvar and the 880 yard relay team now focus their efforts on preparing for next Sunday’s M.I.A.A. 91st Annual Indoor State Division I Track & Field Meet, to held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College, scheduled to get under way at 1:00 p.m.


Kwan Selected Mid-Wach A 2007-2008
Indoor Track & Field All-Starr

February 7, 2008 - Senior Derrick Kwan was selected a Midland-Wachusett A League All-Star for the 2007-2008 indoor track & field season. Kwan achieved this honor, when he captured the high jump at the Mid-Wach A Championship held on January 26.


Red Raiders Compete At M.S.T.C.A. Invitational

February 2, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team travelled to the Robert McIntyre Track and Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College Saturday morning to compete in the 45th Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Invitational Track & Field Meet.

The Red Raiders turned in several season bests as Joel Gomez ran 38.69 in the 300 meters, while leaping 18' 1" in the long jump. Ismail Disu also ran a season best 6.96 in the 55 meter dash. Other Fitchburg athletes competing in the included Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 9.08; Steve Silvar, shot put, 41' 6.75"; and Derrick Kwan, high jump. Red Raiders Finish Seventh In Mid-Wach A

January 26, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished seventh overall in Mid-Wach A by finishing seventh at the Mid-Wach A Championships held Saturday morning in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House. The final scores in the meet were Shrewsbury, 97, Wachusett Regional, 62, Leominster, 61, North Middlesex Regional, 55, Algonquin Regional, 35, Milford, 32, and Fitchburg, 29.

The Red Raiders were led by senior Derrick Kwan, who captured the high jump with a leap of 5' 7"; and the 880 relay team comprised of Ismail Disu, Patrick Hodges, Jaime Matias, and Joel Gomez, which finished second with a school facility record, as well as a school record for yards, with a season best 1:42.5. Also scoring points for Fitchburg were Steve Silvar, shot put, 42' 1.75", third; Noah Marceau, high jump, 5' 4", fourth; Gomez, 300 meters, 39.8, sixth; and the mile relay team comprised of Hodges, Matias, Anthony Colon, and Kwan, 4:11.8, sixth.

Also representing Fitchburg were Brendan Cotter, shot put, 26' 6"; Tyler Boudreau, 55 meter high hurdles, 10.4, and high jump, 4' 11"; Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 9.1, and 600 meters, 1:33.7; Disu, 55 meter dash, 7.1; Kwan, 55 meter dash, 7.3; and the two mile relay team comprised of Glenn Lemieux, James Paine, Jon Vander Hamm, and Cameron Trodello, 10:15.2. Red Raiders Run Well At State Relays
800 Meter Relay Team Earns Trip To Division I State Qualifier

January 19, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team turned in several fine performances Saturday morning at the 31st Massachusetts State Coaches' Association's Class A Indoor Track & Field Relay Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

The Red Raiders were led by the 19th place finish of the 800 meter relay team comprised of Ismail Disu, Noah Marceau, Jaime Matias, and Joel Gomez, which ran 1:38.70 to qualify for the Division I State Qualifier scheduled for Sunday, February 17th. The 50 yard shuttle hurdle team comprised of Johann Schuerman, Tyler Boudreau, John Ngo, and Matias also finished 19th in the meet with a time of 30.40.

Also competing for the Red Raiders was the 50 yard shuttle dash team comprised of Disu, Marceau, Anthony Colon, and Gomez 20th, 24.03; the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Patrick Hodges, Schuerman, Glenn Lemieux, and Boudreau, 30th, 3:53.72. Red Raiders Swept In Season Finale

January 16, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was swept in it’s final double-dual meet of the season Wednesday night, losing to Shrewsbury, 70-21, and Milford, 49-42, in the Douglass P. Grutchfield field house.

Against the Shrewsbury the Red Raiders had only two first place performances, as Noah Marceau captured the high jump with a leap of 5’ 6”; and the mile relay team comprised of Glenn Lemieux, Cameron Trodello, Derrick Kwan, and Tyler Boudreau, 4:21.1. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.7, and 600 meters, 1:34.4; and Steve Silvar, shot put, 41' .5". Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Lemieux, 5:33.4; and Joel Gomez, 300 meters, 39.6.

Versus Milford the Red Raiders had first place performances from Silvar, shot put; Marceau, high jump, and 55 meter dash, 7.1; Schuerman, 600 meters; Gomez, 300 meters; and the 880 yard relay team comprised of Marceau, Patrick Hodges, Gomez, and Anthony Colon, 1:46.7. Red Raiders Swept Aside

January 12, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was swept in a double-dual meet held Wednesday night in the Wachusett Regional field house, losing to St. John’s (Shrewsbury), 76-15, and the Wachusett Regional, 70-21.

Against the St. John’s the Red Raiders had one first place, as Derrick Kwan captured the 55 meter dash in 7.0. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Jon Vander Hamm, 2 mile, 13:45.2; and Steve Silvar, shot put, 42' 2.5". Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.9; Ismail Disu, 55 meter dash, 7.1; Jaime Matias, 600 meters, 1:36.9; and Joel Gomez, 300 meters, 40.5.

Versus the Wachusett Regional the Red Raiders had a first place performance from Silvar, shot put; Gomez, 300 meters; and Kwan, high jump, 5’ 4”. Red Raiders Pick Up First Win Of The Season

January 5, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Littleton, 60-30, Saturday morning at the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Leading the team in the meet was Johann Schuerman, who finished first in the 55 meter high hurdles, 9.2, and in the 600 meters, 1:39.4. Derrick Kwan also had a solid meet, winning the high jump, 5’ 4”, finishing second in the 55 meter dash, 7.0, and teaming with Ismail Disu, Anthony Colon, and Ethan LaPointe, to win the 880 yard relay in 1:53.2. Also finishing first were Disu, 55 meter dash, 6.8; Glenn Lemieux, mile, 5:27.8; Jaime Matias, 300 meters, 40.6; Cameron Trodello, 1000 meters, 3:21.7; and the mile relay team comprised of Lemieux, Tyler Boudreau, Patrick Hodges, and Matias, 4:11.6.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Boudreau and Hodges, tie, high jump, 5’; Jon Vander Hamm, two mile, 13:40.9; and Hodges, 300 meters, 40.8. Red Raiders Edged By Algonquin

January 2, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field kept it close with Algonquin Regional, losing to the Tomahawks, 51-40, in dual meet held Wednesday night in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Leading the team in the meet were Ismail Disu and Joel Gomez, as Disu captured the 55 meter dash in 6.8, while Gomez won the 300 meters in 40.3. Disu and Gomez later teamed with Anthony Colon and Noah Marceau to win the 880 yard relay in a season best 1:45.6. Derrick Kwan also contributed in two events, winning the high jump with a height of 5’ 10”, and was second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.0. Steve Silvar also finished first in his specialty, winning the shot put with a distance of 39’ 7.25”.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.8; Sean Caissey, shot put, 33’ 5”; and Marceau, high jump, 5’ 6”. FHS Freshmen-Sophomores At Mid-Wach Invitational Meet

December 27, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in a number of top performances Thursday morning at the Mid-Wach Freshmen-Sophomore Meet held at Marlborough High School.

Sophomore Noah Marceau led the way finishing first in the high jump, 5’ 6”, and fourth 40 meter dash, 5.4. Also placing in the top six was sophomore Tyler Boudreau, who finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 5’. Other athletes representing Fitchburg by event were: 40 meter high hurdles - Boudreau, 7.4; 40 meter dash - freshmen Jon Francis, 6.1, Mike Gross, 6.6, and Brendan Cotter, 6.7; 600 meters - Boudreau, 1:51.8; 1000 meters - freshmen Jon Vander Hamm, 3:51.2, and Ian Casker, 3:54.4; mile - Vander Hamm, 6:23.2; and in the shot put - Cotter, 28’ 7”, and Casker, 22’ 2”. Patriot Thinclads Down Red Raiders

December 22, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team lost their second dual meet of the season Saturday morning, falling to the Patriots of North Middlesex Regional, 69-22, in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Noah Marceau and Johann Schuerman each finished first for the Red Raiders, as Marceau captured the high jump, 5’ 6”, while Schuerman was first in the 55 meter high hurdles with a personal best 8.9. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Ismail Disu, 55 meter dash, 7.0; Joel Gomez, 300 meters, 40.2; and Derek Kwan, high jump, 5’ 6”. Red Raiders Can’t Stay With Blue Devils

December 15, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was defeated in their opening dual meet of the season Saturday morning, falling to arch-rival Leominster, 60.5-30.5, at the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Fitchburg was led by Noah Marceau, who captured the high jump, 5’ 8”, combined with Anthony Colon, Patrick Hodges, and Josh Less, to finish first in the 880 relay, 1:46.7, and third in the 55 meter dash, 7.2. Also finishing first for the Red Raiders was Steve Silvar in the shot put, 36’ 7”.

Second place performances went to Kris Brown, two mile, 12:20.4; Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, 9.1; Ismail Disu, 55 meter dash, 7.1; and Glenn Lemieux, mile, 5:34.8. December 8, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in a number of top performances Saturday morning at the second annual "Don Woods" Memorial Invitational held at the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Fitchburg’s performances by event were: Shot Put - 11th, Ladjuane Ashmore, 31’ 4”; 17th, Brendan Cotter, 28’ 1”; and 32nd, Ian Casker, 21’ 2.50”.
