Red Raiders Celebrate The 2008-2009 Season

March 11, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the 2008-2009 indoor track & field season at the end of the season pizza party held Wednesday afternoon in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria.

Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were seniors Babatunde Ogunleye and Dracar Payton, Most Valuable Performers; senior Cameron Trodello, Coaches’ Award; sophomore Brandon Davis, Most Improved Athlete; and freshman Erik Bennett Freshman Award. These athletes, along with the rest of the team, earned the right to wear the "F" by earning Varsity status, for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track and field.

Coach Woods and Coach Moore, and girls' head Coach Sara DiPilato, would like to personally congratulate the team, and their parents, along with everyone else who contributed to the program's success throughout the 2008-2009 season.


Ogunleye Selected 2008-2009 Worcester T&G
Indoor Track & Field All-Star

March 9, 2009 - Senior Babatunde was selected a 2008-2009 Worcester T&G All-Star for the 2008-2009 indoor track & field season. Ogunleye achieved this honor, by finishing first in the 300 meters at the 2008-2009 District E, Division I Championship Meet, held on February 14th at the Doug Grutchfield Field House.

February 22, 2009 - Seniors Babatunde and Dracar Payton were selected a Midland-Wachusett A League All-Stars for the 2008-2009 indoor track & field season. Ogunleye, 300 meters, and Payton, high jump and 55 meter dash, achieved this honor, by finishing first in these events at the 2008-2009 Mid-Wach A Championship held on February 7th at the Doug Grutchfield Field House.

February 21, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team completed the 2008-2009 season Saturday afternoon at the 92nd Annual State Indoor Track & Field Division I Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Seniors Dracar Payton, and Babatunde Ogunleye, representing the Red Raiders in the meet, as Payton finished twelfth in the 55 meter dash, 6.92, while Ogunleye finished fifteenth in the 300 meter dash, 37.50.

The 2008-2009 indoor track & field team will be honored for their efforts at an end-of-the season team pizza party on Wednesday afternoon, March 11th, starting at 2:30 p.m., in the Fitchburg High School "Cafe".

Payton Earns Runner-Up In The Dash

February 14, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished eighth overall in the 31st Annual District E, Division I Indoor Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday morning at the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

The Red Raiders were led by the first place finish of senior Babatunde Ogunleye, who finished first in the 300 meter dash in 38.0, while senior Dracar Payton was runner-up in the 55 meter dash. 6.6.

Also representing Fitchburg was junior, Tyler Boudreau in the 55 meter high hurdles, and the mile relay team comprised of Payton, Boudreau, sophomore, Brandon Davis, and Ogunleye, which finished eighth overall in a season best, 3:52.8.

Ogunleye, 300 meter dash, and Payton, 55 meter dash, will now focus their efforts on preparing for next Saturday’s M.I.A.A. 92nd Annual Indoor State Division I Track & Field Meet, to held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College, scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Finish Fifth In Mid-Wach A Meet
Payton Equals School Record
Sets F.H.S. Facility Record

February 7, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished fifth in the meet, scoring 33 points, and sixth overall in the league, at the Mid-Wach A Championships held Saturday afternoon in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

The Red Raiders were led by senior Dracar Payton, who captured the high jump, 5’ 9”, and the 55 meter dash, 6.73. Payton’s time in the dash set a Fitchburg High School facility record, and equaled the school record set by Malcolm Wilbur in 2006. Fitchburg’s other first place finish came from senior Babatunde Ogunleye, who captured the 300 meter dash in 38.07. Also scoring points for Fitchburg were Brandon Davis in the mile, fifth, with a season best, 4:54.94, and the two mile relay team comprised of Jon Vander Hamm, Martin Ortiz, Jr., Erik Bennett, and Cameron Trodello, which finished sixth in 11:25.33.

Fitchburg now prepares for the 31st Annual Division I District E Invitational scheduled for next Saturday morning in the Douglass P. Grutchfield field house, with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.


Payton Represents Red Raiders At Elite Invitational

February 1, 2009 - Senior Dracar Payton represented the Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team Sunday morning at the Elite Invitational Track & Field Meet held at the Robert McIntyre Track and Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

Payton’s time of 6.97, placed him 15th overall in the 55 meter dash, which was comprised of the top athletes in Massachusetts.

The Red Raiders host the Mid-Wach Championships next Saturday, with the A League Meet scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Compete At M.S.T.C.A. Invitational

January 31, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team travelled to the Robert McIntyre Track and Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College Saturday morning to compete in the 46th Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Invitational Track & Field Meet.

The Red Raiders were represented by Babatunde Ogunleye, who finished eighth in the 300 meter dash in a season best 37.33, and Brandon Davis, who finished sixtieth in the mile, 5:15.55.

Senior Dracar Payton travels to the Elite Track & Field Meet tomorrow morning to compete in the 55 meter dash, with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Finish Up With Win Over Lunenburg

January 24, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team finished up the dual meet season with a win, defeating Lunenburg, 43-41, Saturday morning at the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Leading the team in the meet was Brandon Davis, who finished first in the two mile, 11:17.4, and mile, 5:17.6. Tyler Boudreau also placed first, winning the 55 meter high hurdles in 9.1, and second in the 600 meters, 1:45.5. Also finishing first was Dracar Payton, 55 meter dash, 6.6; and Babatunde Ogunleye, 300 meters, 38.8.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Noah Marceau, high jump, 5’ 8”, and 55 meter dash, 7.1; Manny Torres, shot put, 32’ 8.5”; and Cameron Trodello, 1000 meters, 3:15.4. Completing the scoring by finishing third were Payton, high jump, 5’ 6”; Erik Bennett, 55 meter high hurdles, 11.2; and Jon Francis, 55 meter dash, 7.2.

The Red Raiders travel to the Robert McIntyre Track and Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College Saturday morning to compete in the 46th Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Invitational Track & Field Meet, with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Swept By Algonquin And Srewsbury

January 21, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was swept in a double-dual meet held Wednesday night at Shrewsbury High School, losing to Algonquin Regional, 60-31, and Shrewsbury, 77.5-13.5.

Against Algonquin Regional, Dracar Payton captured the 55 meter dash in 6.6, while Babatunde Ogunleye captured the 300 meter dash in 39.2. Payton and Ogunleye then teamed with Joel Gomez and Kong Moua to win the 880 yard relay in 1:47.5.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Gomez, 55 meter dash, 7.1; Brandon Davis, mile, 5:04.5; and Cameron Trodello, 1000 meters, 3:22.7. Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Ethan Diaz, shot put, 33’ 11”; Jon Vander Hamm, two mile, 13:34.9; Tyler Boudreau, 55 meter high hurdles, 9.3; and Chris MacLean, 1000 meters, 4:00.0.

Against the Shrewsbury the Red Raiders had only one first place by Payton in the dash. Finishing second was Ogunleye in the 300 meters; and Payton in the high jump, 5’ 6”. Completing the scoring by finishing third were Diaz in the shot put; Gomez in the 55 meter dash; and Davis in the mile.

Fitchburg hosts Lunenburg High School this Saturday morning in their final dual meet of the season with the meet scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Run Well At State Relays

January 17, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team turned in several fine performances Saturday morning at the 32nd Massachusetts State Coaches' Association's Class A Indoor Track & Field Relay Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.

The Red Raiders were led by the 9th place finish of the high jump team comprised of Noah Marceau, Dracar Payton, and Tyler Boudreau, who combined for a height of 15’ 11”.

Also competing for the Red Raiders was the 50 yard shuttle dash team comprised of Payton, Marceau, Kong Moua, and Babatunde Ogunleye, 15th, 23.49; the shot put team comprised of Manny Torres, Sebastian Dalmaud, and Ross McNamara, who combined for a distance of 84’ 4.25” to finish 25th; the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Boudreau, Brandon Davis, Jon Francis, and Cameron Trodello, 33rd, 4:02.99; the sprint medley relay team comprised of Trodello, Ben Lessard, Francis, and Jon Vander Hamm, 33rd, 4:32.49; and the 800 meter relay team comprised of Moua, Marceau, Payton, and Ogunleye, 35th, 1:43.31.

The Red Raiders travel to Shrewsbury Wednesday night for a double-dual meet versus Algonquin Regional and Shrewsbury, with the meet scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m.


Red Raiders Swept Aside

January 14, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was swept in a double-dual meet held Saturday morning in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House, losing to Marlborough, 59-32, and Gardner, 60.66-30.33.

Against Marlborough the Red Raiders were led by Babatunde Ogunleye, who finished first in the 300 meter dash, 39.3, and second in the 55 meter dash, 7.0. Other first place performances were turned in by Noah Marceau, high jump, 5’ 6”; Tyler Boudreau, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.9; Dracar Payton, 55 meter dash, 6.6; and the 880 yard relay team comprised of Jeffrey Duenas, Joel Gomez, Payton, and Marceau, 1:45.3. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Ethan Diaz, shot put, 33’ 3.5”; Patrick Hodges, high jump, 5’; and Greg Mendez and Ogunleye, tie, 55 meter dash, 7.0. Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Jon Vander Hamm, mile, 6:35.0; and Gomez, 300 meters, 41.2.

Versus Gardner the Red Raiders had first place performances from Payton, 55 meter dash; Ogunleye, 300 meters; and the 880 yard relay team comprised of Duenas, Gomez, Payton, and Marceau. Finishing second were Diaz, shot put; Marceau, high jump; Boudreau, 55 meter high hurdles; Mendez and Ogunleye, tie, 55 meter dash; and Hodges, 600 meters, 1:45.6. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Hodges, shot put, 32’ 9”; and Cameron Trodello, 1000 meters, 3:17.1.

The Red Raiders travel to the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College, Saturday morning, to compete in the 32nd Massachusetts State Coaches' Association's Class A Indoor Track & Field Relay Championships with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Edged By Leominster

January 10, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field was edged out by arch-rival Leominster, 50-41, in dual meet held Saturday morning in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Leading the team in the meet was Brandon Davis, who finished first in the two mile, 11:23.4, and second in the 1000 meters, 3:00.9. Also finishing first were Manny Torres, shot put, 32’ 4.5”; Noah Marceau, high jump, 5’ 6”; Babatunde Ogunleye, 300 meters, 38.9; and the 88 yard relay team comprised of Jeffrey Duenas, Joel Gomez, Marceau, and Dracar Payton, 1:47.9.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Kong Moua, shot put, 31’ 11”; Tyler Boudreau, 55 meter high hurdles, 8.9; Payton, 55 meter dash, 6.8; and Martin Ortiz, Jr., 600 meters, 1:47.8. Completing the scoring was Boudreau, who finished third in the high jump, 5’ 4”.

Fitchburg hosts Marlborough and Gardner Saturday morning in a double-dual meet scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.


Milford Hands Red Raiders Their Third Loss

January 7, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team lost their third dual meet of the season Wednesday night, falling to Milford, 52.5-33.5, in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Brandon Davis led the Red raiders, winning the two mile, 11:35.7, and 1000 meters, 3:08.2, while individual wins went to Tyler Boudreau, high jump, 5’ 4”; Dracar Payton, 55 meter dash, 6.8; Patrick Hodges, 600 meters, 1:49.2; and Babatunde Ogunleye, 300 meters, 40.0. Finishing second for Fitchburg was Noah Marceau, high jump, 5’ 4”, while third place performances were turned in by Ogunleye, 55 meter dash, 7.2; and Jon Vander Hamm, mile, 6:07.6.

The Red Raiders host Leominster this Saturday morning with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Open Season With Double Loss

January 3, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team opened their season with double-dual meet losses to North Middlesex regional, 60-29, and Wachusett regional, 77-14, Saturday morning in the Douglass P. Grutchfield Field House.

Fitchburg was led by Noah Marceau, who captured first in the high jump, 5’ 8”, while Brandon Davis picked up a win in the two mile, 11:21.1.

Second place performances went to Tyler Boudreau in the high jump, 5’ 4”, and 55 meter high hurdles, 10.4; Babatunde Ogunleye, 55 meter dash, 7.1; and Patrick Hodges, 300 meters, 41.0. Completing the scoring by finishing third were Manny Torres, shot put, 32’ 1.75”; and Marceau, 55 meter dash, 7.3.

The Red Raiders host Milford this Wednesday night with that meet scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m.
