2009 Outdoor Track & Field Team Celebrate Season

June 16, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's 2009 outdoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the season Tuesday afternoon in the Fitchburg High School "Cafe", with a "Pizza Party" sponsored by the teams' coaches. The pizza party was followed by the presentation of individual and team awards provided by the Fitchburg High School coaching staff, and the athletic department.

Athletes recognized for their contribution to this year’s team included seniors Timothy Douglas and Brian Conroy; junior Anthony Colon; sophomore Tyler Boudreau; and freshman Jon Vander Hamm. For the second year in a row Douglas received the Most Valuable Athlete; Conroy, the Coaches' Award; Boudreau and Colon, Most Improved Athletes; and Vander Hamm, the Freshman Award. Varsity and Junior Varsity Awards were also presented to all athletes who have earned the right to wear the "F", for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track & field.

Coach DiPilato, Moore, Scott, and Woods would like to personally congratulate the men's team, and all others who contributed to the program’s success throughout the 2009 season.


Payton Named 2009 T&G All-Star

June 15, 2009 - Selected as a Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-Star was senior Dracar Payton for his outstanding performance at the 2009 M.I.A.A. Central Massachusetts Track & Field Championship Meet held on May 30th at Fitchburg State College.


Powell Represents The Red Radiers In The Central Massachusetts Decathlon

June 9 & 10, 2009 - Junior Sergio Powell represented the Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team at the 26th Annual Central Massachusetts District E Decathlon held at the College of the Holy Cross.

Powell earned a total of 3,066 points to finish in 80th place out of 136 athletes in the two day event that featured the 100 meters, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put, javelin, 110 meter high hurdles, 400 meters and 1500 meters.


Red Raiders Compete In All-State Meet

June 6, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team turned in a number of fine performances at the 2009 M.I.A.A. Central Massachusetts Track & Field Championship held Saturday morning at Fitchburg State College.

Senior Dracar Payton led the way finishing twelth in the long jump, 20’ 9.75”; thirteenth in the 100 meters, 11.52, while combining with Joel Gomez, Noah Marceau, and Babatunde Ogunleye in the 400 meter relay to finish seventeenth in 44:51. Ogunleye also represented the Red Raiders in the 200 meters finishing fourteenth in 23.18.

The Red Radiers complete their season next Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons when they travel to the College of the Holy Cross to compete in the 27th Annual District E Central Massachusetts Decathlon with both days getting underway at 3:30 p.m. .


Red Raiders Finish Seventh In Central Massachusetts Track & Field Tournament
Payton Named Most Valuable Male Athlete

May 30, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team ran to a seventh place finish at the 2009 M.I.A.A. Central Massachusetts Track & Field Championship held Saturday morning at Fitchburg State College.

Senior Dracar Payton was named the Everett Ingalls Most Valuable Male Athlete as he led the Red Raiders by finishing first in both the 100 meters, 11.28, and long jump, 22’ 1.75”, while combining with Joel Gomez, Noah Marceau, and Babatunde Ogunleye in the 400 meter relay to finish first in a school record 44.08. Ogunleye completed Fitchburg’s scoring in the meet as he finished second in the 299 meters with a time of 22.95.

Payton, Ogunleye, Gomez, and Marceau will represent the Red Raiders next Saturday morning in the M.I.A.A. All-State Meet at Fitchburg State College scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.


2009 Midland-Wachusett A League All-Stars Selected

May 28, 2009 - Selected as a Midland-Wachusett A League All-Stars for 2009 were Dracar Payton, Babatunde Ogunleye, Noah Marceau, and Patrick Hodges for their performances at the league championship meet held last Thursday, May 21st, at Shrewsbury High School.


Red Raiders Finish Fifth At 2009 Mid-Wach A Championship

May 21, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team finished fifth in the Mid-Wach A Championship Meet held Thursday afternoon at Shrewsbury High School.

The Red Raiders were led by Dracar Payton who captured the 100 meters in a school record 10.95, finished second in the long jump, 20’ 8.25”, was fifth in the high jump, 5’ 10”, and combined with Babatunde Ogunleye, Patrick Hodges, and Noah Marceau to finish first in the 400 meter relay, 44.76. Fitchburg also had first place performances from Marceau in the high jump, 6’, and Ogunleye, 200 meters, 22.67. Oguneleye’s time in the 200 meters broke the Fitchburg High School school record for that event.

Also scoring valuable points in the meet was the 3200 meter relay team comprised of Brandon Davis, Jon Vander Hamm, Jared Weed, and Cameron Trodello, fifth, 10:15.63; and the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Weed, Trodello, Vajnder Hamm, and Davis, sixth, 4:11.21.

The Red Raiders now prepare for the M.I.A.A. Central Massachusetts State Qualifier hosted by Fitchburg State College next Saturday with scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Finish Eighth In Class A

May 16, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team finished in eighth place Saturday morning at the Forty-Eighth Annual Ralph A. Colson Memorial Track & Field Class A Championships held at Shrewsbury High School.

The Red Raiders were led Dracar Payton, who captured the 100 meters, 11.17, finished second in the long jump 20’ 8”, and combined with Joel Gomez, Patrick Hodges, and Babatunde Ogunleye, in the 400 meter relay to finish second in 45.05. Ogunleye was Fitchburg’s other individual point scorer finishing first in the 200 meters in 22.81.

The Red Raiders travel to Shrewsbury Thursday afternoon to compete in the Mid-Wach A Championships with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m..


North Middlesex Defeats Red Raiders

May 12, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team was defeated by North Middlesex regional Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field.

The Red Raiders were led by Dracar Payton, who captured three events, the long jump, 20’ 9”, the high jump, 5’ 4”, and the 100 meter, 11.0. Payton also teamed with Patrick Hodges, Babtunde Ogunleye, and Joel Gomez to win the 400 meter relay in 47.1. Also finishing first was Gomez in the triple jump, 39’; Sergio Powell, shot put, 40’ 1.5”; Hodges, javelin, 140’; and Ogunleye, 400 meters, 51.5.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Ogunleye, long jump, 17’ 6.75”, and 200 meters, 24.3; Gomez, 110 high hurdles, 18.8; Powell, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:16.1; and Xavier Mitchell, discus, 99’ 4”. Completing the scoring with third place were Hodges, high jump, 5’ 2”, and 200 meters, 25.1; Brandon Davis, mile, 5:11.1; Manuel Torres, discus, 90’ 2”; Kyle Phillips, javelin, 131’ 9”; Jared Weed, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:16.8; and Nick Balaguer, 800 meters, 2:17.4.

The Red Raiders travel to Shrewsbury High School Saturday morning to compete in the 48th Annual District E Invitational Class A Meet with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Raiders Pick Up First Win Of The Season

May 6, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team picked up their first win of the season, defeating the Milford Scarlet Hawks, 72-65, Wednesday afternoon in Milford.

The Red Raiders were led by Dracar Payton, who captured three events, the triple jump, 38’ 11”, the high jump, 5’ 10”, and the 100 meter, 11.1. Payton also teamed with Patrick Hodges, Javier Vazquez, and Joel Gomez to win the 400 meter relay in 47.1. Brandon Davis and Babatunde Ogunleye picked up two first place finishes each as Davis won the mile, 5:13.0, and 800 meters, 2:15.6; while Ogunleye captured the 400 meters, 51.9, and the 200 meters, 23.1. Also finishing first was Gomez in the long jump, 18’ 7”.

Finishing second for Fitchburg were Hodges, javelin, 123’, and 200 meters, 24.3; Ogunleye, long jump, 17’ 1”; Sergio Powell, shot put, 40’; Gomez, triple jump, 38’ 7”; Jon Vander Hamm, two mile, 13:04.4; and Manuel Torres, discus, 95’. Completing the scoring with third place were Hodges, high jump, 5’ 2”; Davis, javelin, 90’ 2”; and Torres, 110 meter high hurdles, 26.2.

The Red Raiders host North Middlesex next Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Finish Ninth Overall At Robert Duncan Relays

May 2, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team competed to a ninth place finish overall at the 33rd Annual District E Robert Duncan Division I Relays held at St. John’s of Shrewsbury Saturday afternoon.

The team of Babatunde Ogunleye, Patrick Hodges, Joel Gomez, and Dracar Payton combined in both the 400 meter relay, 45.0, and 800 meter relay, 1:34, to finish second in broth events. Also scoring in the meet with top six performance was the long jump team comprised of Payton, Gomez, and Ogunleye, which finished third with a combined distance of 53’ 11.5”.

Also competing for Fitchburg was the shot put team comprised of Sergio Powell, Manuel Torres, and Kyle Phillips, seventh, 105’ 8.75”; the discus team comprised of Torres, Powell, and Jared Weed, twelfth, 104’ 2”; the javelin team comprised of Phillips, Hodges, and Brandon Davis, thirteenth, 221’ 11”; the 3200 meter relay team comprised of Jon Vander Hamm, Davis, Weed, and Cameron Trodello, thirteenth, 10:31.4; and 1600 meter relay team comprised of Nick Balaguer, Weed, Javier Vazquez, and Davis, thirteenth, 4:07.1

The Red Raiders travel to Milford Wednesday afternoon with that meet scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.


Colonials Down Red Raiders

April 28, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team lost to the Shrewsbury High School Colonials, 97-48, Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field.

The Red Raiders were led by Dracar Payton, who captured two events, the long jump, 20’ 8.5”, and the 100 meter dash, 10.8, while finishing second in the high jump, 5’ 8”. Teammate Babatunde Ogunleye won two events, the 400 meters, 51.6, and 200 meters, 23.6, while additional first place performances came from Joel Gomez, triple jump, 39’ 5.5”; and Noah Marceau, high jump, 5’ 10”. Gomez and Marceau also teamed with Ogunleye, and Patrick Hodges to win the 400 meter relay with a time of 45.7.

Second place performances were turned in by Sergio Powell, shot put, 38’ 5.75”; and Kyle Phillips, javelin, 134’. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Gomez, long jump, 18’ 4.75”; Xavier Mitchell, javelin, 129’ 9”; Marceau, 100 meters, 11.5, and Brandon Davis, mile, 5:11.5.

The Red Raiders travel to St. John’s in Shrewsbury this Saturday afternoon to compete in the 33rd Annual Robert Duncan District E Division I Relays with that event scheduled to get underway at 2:00 p.m.


Red Raiders Compete In Frosh/Soph Meet

April 25, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team turned in several fine performances at the Mid-Wach Freshman/Sophomore Meet held Saturday morning at Algonquin Regional in Northboro.

Representing the Red Raiders in the meet were sophomores Brandon Davis and Jon Vander Hamm in the mile, who ran 5:08.0, and 6:06.0, respectively, and Michael Gross in the javelin, 100’ 2”. Davis also competed in the javelin, where he equalled Gross’s throw with an identical 100’ 2”.

The Red Raiders host Shrewsbury High School next Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Tomahawks Crush Red Raiders

April 16, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team was crushed by Algonquin Regional, 124-21, Thursday afternoon at the Tomahawk’s track in Northboro.

The Red Raiders lone first place performance was turned in by Noah Marceau, who won the high jump with a leap of 5’ 10”, and was second in the 100 meters, 12.2. Also finishing second were Tyler Boudreau, pole vault, 10’; Patrick Hodges, javelin, 125’ 4”; Nick Balaguer, 800 meters, 2:19.2; and Orlando Anderson, 200 meters, 27.2. Completing the scoring with a third place performance was Patrick Hodges in the 400 meters, 58.6.

The Red Raiders travel to back to Algonquin Regional next Saturday morning, to compete in the Mid-Wach Freshman/Sophomore Meet with that meet scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.


Leominster Defeats Red Raiders

April 9, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor track & field team saw their record fall to 0-2, losing to Mid-Wach A rival Leominster, 79-62, Thursday afternoon at Crocker Field.

The Red Raiders captured six events as Dracar Payton, captured the 100 meters, 11.1; Sergio Powell, shot put, 36’ 7”; Noah Marceau, high jump, 6’; Brandon Davis, two mile, 11:31.3; Xavier Mitchell, discus, 101’ 4”; Tyler Boudreau, pole vault, 9’ 6”; and the 400 meter relay team comprised of Payton, Marceau, Josh Jenness, and Anthony Colon, 49.5.

Second place performances were turned in by Boudreau, 110 meter high hurdles, 17.4, and 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:06.7; Payton, long jump, 17’ 8”; Colon, shot put, 36’ 7”; Jonathan Diaz-Atto, 800 meters, 2:20.2; and Marceau, 200 meters, 24.4. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Marceau, long jump, 17’ 2.5”; Manuel Torres, shot put, 35’ 1.5”; Patrick Hodges, javelin, 118’ 2”, and 200 meters, 24.9; Ross McNamara, 400 meters, 1:22.9; and Davis, 800 meters, 2:24.2.

The Red Raiders travel to Northboro next Thursday afternoon to take on Algonquin Regional with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Lose To Wachusett Regional

March 31, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team opened their season Tuesday afternoon, losing to Wachusett Regional, 93-51, at Crocker Field

Fitchburg was led by Dracar Payton, who captured two events, the long jump, 20' 8.5", and the 100 meters, 11.6, while anchoring the 400 meter relay comprised of Jeffrey Duenas, Anthony Colon, and Noah Marceau to victory in 48.3. Babatunde Ogunleye and Tyler Boudreau picked up two wins each, as Ogunleye captured the 400 meters, 51.9, and the 200 meters, 23.7.; while Boudreau picked up wins in the pole vault, 9' 6", and 110 meter high hurdles, 18.8. Noah Marceau also picked up a first place, capturing the high jump in 5' 10".

Finishing second were Payton, high jump, 5’ 8”; Brandon Davis, two mile, 11:19.2; and Xavier Mitchell, javelin, 117’ 5”. Completing the scoring by finishing third were Colon, javelin, 113’ 4”; and Boudreau, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:06.9. Boudreau’s time in this event established a school record.

Fitchburg hosts Leominster next Thursday afternoon with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
