Onikeku Finishes Fifth In Massachusetts

June 5, 2012 - Senior Toni Onikeku finished fifth in Massachusetts in the high jump, clearing 6' 4", at the M.I.A.A. Championship Meet held Tuesday afternoon at Fitchburg State University.

Also competing for the Red Raiders were Ezra Brice in the triple jump, eighteenth, 41' 5.5", and the 400 meter relay team, nineteenth, comprised of Elijah Kukta, Connor Lemieux, Onikeku, and Brice, 45.93.


Red Raiders Finish Eleventh In Central Massachusetts Championship
Onikeku Crowned District Champion

May 26, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team ran to an eleventh place finish at the Central Massachusetts Championship Meet held Saturday at Fitchburg State University.

The Red Raiders were led by Toni Onikeku, who captured the high jump with a leap of 6' 6", while teaming with Elijah Kukta, Connor Lemieux, and Ezra Brice, to finish fourth in the 400 meter relay with a season best 45.18. Brice was also fourth in the triple jump with a personal best 43' 1", while C.J. Jones picked up a point in the discus with a throw of 121' 3", to finish eighth.

Also representing Fitchburg in the meet were Abbi Bamgbose, personal bests in the triple jump, eleventh, 40' 7.5", and long jump, seventeenth, 20' .75"; Lemieux, 200, eleventh, 23.72; Jones, shot put, seventeenth, 41' 1.75"; Tommy Duong, discus, seventeenth, 109' 11"; Kukta, long jump, twenty-second, 19' 6.25"; and Peter Montalvo, high jump, no height.

Onikeku, Brice, and the 400 meter relay team travel back to Fitchburg State University Saturday afternoon to compete in the M.I.A.A. Championship Meet scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m.


Onikeku And Brice Selected Mid-Wach A All-Stars

May 21, 2012 - Senior Toni Onikeku and junior Ezra Brice were selected Mid-Wach A All-Stars by Mid-Wach A coaches for their outstanding contributions to the Fitchburg High School track & field team throughout the 2012 season.


Red Raiders Finish Fifth In Mid-Wach A Meet

May 19, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team ran to a fifth place finish at the Mid-Wach A League Championship Meet held Saturday at Shrewsbury High School.

The Red Raiders were led by Ezra Brice, who finished second in the triple jump with a season best 42' 6.5", fourth in the long jump, 18' 8", and teamed with Elijah Kukta, Connor Lemieux, and Toni Onikeku in the 400 meter relay to finish second in a season best 45.41. Also placing in the top six were Onikeku, high jump, second, 6' 2"; Lemieux, 200, fourth, 24.88; Abbi Bamgbose, triple jump, fourth, 39' 6.25"; C.J. Jones, shot put, fifth, 42' 6.5"; Kukta, long jump, 18' 6.25"; Tommy Duong, discus, fifth, 120' 7"; the 3200 meter relay team comprised of Peter Montalvo, Ryain MacLean, Christian Capoccia, and Jason Bugarin, fifth, 9:07.67; and the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Montalvo, Kukta, Bugarin, and Capoccia, sixth, 3:52.70.

The Red Raiders travel to Fitchburg State University Saturday morning to compete in the Central Massachusetts State Qualifier scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Defeated By Shrewsbury

May 14, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team was defeated by Shrewsbury, 85-60, Monday afternoon at Crocker Field.

The Red Raiders were led by Ezra Brice, who captured the 100 meters, 11.8, and triple jump, 40' 3", while teaming with Connor Lemieux, Trey Mahone, and Elijah Kukta, to win the 400 relay in 46.1. Other first place performances came from Toni Onikeku, high jump, 6'; Abbi Bamgbose, 110 high hurdles, 17.1; Kukta, long jump, 19' 1"; and Lemieux, 200 meters, 23.9.

Second place performances were turned in by C.J. Jones, shot put, 42' 8.5"; Brice, long jump, 18' 8.5"; Tommy Duong, discus, 113' 2"; Bamgbose, triple jump, 39' 3.5"; Christian Capoccia, mile, 4:52.8, and 800 meters, 2:15.8; and Peter Montalvo, 400 meters, 56.0. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Bamgbose, 100 meters, 12.0; Jason Bugarin, mile, 4:53.4; and Paul Duenas, 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:08.7.

The Red Raiders travel to Shrewsbury Saturday morning to compete in the Mid-Wach A League Championships scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Finish Tenth In Class A

May 12, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team ran to a tenth place finish at the 51st Annual "Fred Warren" District E Class A Meet held Saturday at Lunenburg High School.

The Red Raiders were led by Toni Onikeku, who took first place in the high jump with a leap of 6' 6". Other top six performances were turned in by C.J. Jones, fifth, shot put, 43' 7", and Abbi Bamgbose, fifth, long jump, 19' 9".

The Red Raiders host Shrewsbury High School Monday afternoon for their last dual meet of the season scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.

Santiago Breaks School Record

May 7, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team defeated arch-rival Leominster, 98-46, Monday afternoon at Crocker Field.

The Red Raiders were led by three event winner Jason Bugarin, who captured the pole vault, 8' 6", two mile, 10:52.6, and 800, 2:15.8. Toni Onikeku and Ezra Brice captured two events each as Brice picked up wins in the triple jump, 40', and 100 meters, 11.6, while Onikeku was victorious in the high jump, 6' 6", and 200 meters, 23.4. Freshman Gerardo Santiago had an outstanding day for Fitchburg, winning the 400 intermediate hurdles in a school record 1:01.4, while teaming with Connor Lemieux, Abbi Bamgbose, and Elijah Kukta, to win the 400 relay in 47.0. Other first place performances were turned in by Leo Ramirez, shot put, 38' 3.25"; Tommy Duong, discus, 116' 2"; Marcos Diaz, javelin, 133' 5"; Christian Capoccia, mile, 5:10.3; and Kukta, long jump, 19' 5.75".

Second place performances were turned in by Connor Dufour, pole vault, 8'; Brice, long jump, 18' 3", and 200 meters, 23.5; Jose Marrero, discus, 101' 7"; Santiago, high jump, 5' 6"; Bamgbose, 110 high hurdles, 17.1; and Trey Mahone, 400 meters, 58.1. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Bamgbose, long jump, 18', and triple jump, 37' 2.5"; Hunter Sallila, shot put, 36' 2"; Tony Duong, javelin, 118' 2", Duane Daye, 400 intermediate hurldes, 1:17.4; Ryain MacLean, 800 meters, 2:19.5; and Lemieux, 200 meters, 23.5.

The Red Raiders travel to Lunenburg Saturday morning to compete in the District E Class A Championships scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Mountaineers Defeat Red Raiders

May 3, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team was defeated by the Wachusett Regional Mountaineers, 115-30, Thursday afternoon in Holden.

The Red Raiders had first place performances from Toni Onikeku, high jump, 5' 10"; Tommy Duong, discus, 111' 9.5"; and Elijah Kukta, long jump, 19' 3". Second place performances were turned in by Ezra Brice, 100 meters, 11.8; Gerardo Santiago, 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:02.8; and Connor Lemieux, 200 meters, 24.2. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Brice, triple jump, 37' 3.25"; Santiago, high jump, 5' 2"; Connor Dufour, pole vault, 7' 6"; Hunter Sallila, shot put, 35' 5"; Jason Bugarin, mile, 5:02.0; and Christian Capoccia, 800 meters, 2:10.0.

The Red Raiders host arch-rival Leominster next Monday afternoon at Crocker Field scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Tomahawks Overwhelm Red Raiders

April 30, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team lost to Algonquin Regional, 106-39, Monday afternoon at Crocker Field.

The Red Raiders once again managed only four first places performances in the meet. Event winners included Toni Onikeku, high jump, 6'; Connor Lemieux, 400 meters, 55.1; Christian Capoccia, mile, 4:58.3; and the 400 meter relay team comprised of Elijah Kukta, Trey Mahone, Onikeku, and Ezra Brice, 45.9.

Second place performances were turned in by Kukta, long jump, 19' 6"; Tommy Duong, discus, 101'; Jason Bugarin, two mile, 11:13.8; and Brice, 100 meters, 11.6. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Brice, triple jump, 37' 8.5"; Abbi Bamgbose, 110 high hurdles, 17.6, and 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:14.4; and Bugarin, 800 meters, 2:20.3.

The Red Raiders travel to Holden Thursday afternoon to take on the Wachusett Mountaineers scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Finish Eighth At Duncan Relays

April 28, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team finished eighth overall at in the 36th Annual Robert Duncan Invitational Division I Relays held Saturday morning at St. John's in Shrewsbury.

The Red Raiders were led by the high jump team comprised of Toni Onikeku, Peter Montalvo, and Ezra Brice, which finished first with a combined height of 16' 10.75". Also finishing in the top six was the long jump team comprised of Brice, Abbi Bamgbose, and Elijah Kukta, third, 53' 5.75"; the 800 meter relay team comprised of Bamgbose, Trey Mahone, Onikeku, and Brice, fifth, 1:37.4; and the shot put team comprised of C.J. Jones, Leo Ramirez, and Hunter Sallila, sixth, 113' 4".

Also representing Fitchburg was the pole vault team comprised of Jason Bugarin, Montalvo, and Connor Dufour, seventh, 22' 7.5";the 400 relay team comprised of Kukta, Mahone, Onikeku, and Brice, seventh, 47.0; the Distance Medley team comprised of Christian Capoccia, Montalvo, Ryain MacLean, and Bugarin, eighth, 12:12.7; the javelin team comprised of Angel Ortiz-Millan, Tommy Duong, and Ramirez, eleventh, 307' 6"; the 1600 meter relay team comrpised of Capoccia, Montalvo, Bugarin, and Erik Bennett, eleventh, 3:58.2; and the discus team comprised of Duong, Jones, and Jose Marrero, twelfth, 198' 9".

The Red Raiders host Algonquin Regional Monday afternoon at Crocker Field scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Doherty Memorial Sprints By Fitchburg

April 26, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team lost to Doherty Memorial, 89-47, Thursday afternoon at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

The Red Raiders only managed four first places performances in the meet. Event winners in the meet included Toni Onikeku, high jump, 6' 2"; Jason Bugarin, mile, 4:58.2; Christian Capoccia, 800 meters, 2:12.6; and C.J. Jones, discus, 123' 7".

Second place performances were turned in by Connor Lemieux, javelin, 120' 4", and 200 meters, 24.8; Elijah Kukta, long jump, 19' 8"; Peter Montalvo, high jump, 5' 10"; and Jones, shot put, 42' 6.5". Completeing the scoring with third place finishes were Ezra Brice, long jump, 19' 7.5", and 100 meters, 11.7; Marcos Diaz, javelin, 120' 2"; Leo Ramirez, shot put, 37' 7"; Ryain MacLean, two mile, 11:40.7; Abbi Bamgbose, 110 high hurdles, 21.3; Lemieux, 400 meters, 54.8; Gerardo Santaigo, 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:03.0; and Trey Mahone, 200 meters, 25.4.

The Red Raiders travel to St. John's in Shrewsbury Saturday morning to compete in the 36th Annual Robert Duncan Invitational Relays scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Shine At Freshmen-Sophomore Meet

April 21, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field freshmen-sophomore team turned in numerous top performances at the Mid-Wach League Freshmen-Sophomore Meet held Saturday morning at Algonquin Regional.

Finishing first for the Red Raiders were Jose Marrero, discus, 95' 2"; and Gerardo Santiago, 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:04.5. Second place performances were turned in by Abbi Bamgbose, long jump, 19' 1"; Hunter Sallila, shot put, 36' 1.25"; and Angel Ortiz-Millan, javelin, 126'. Third place performances were turned in by Sallila, discus, 92' 7"; Leo Ramirez, shot put, 35' 7.25"; Bamgbose, triple jump, 35' 11"; Jason Bugarin, mile, 4:59.9; and the 400 relay team comprised of Marcos Diaz, Ortiz, Bamgbose, and Santiago, 48.5. Finishing fourth was Diaz in the javelin, 115' 11", while Tony Duong, javelin, 114' 7", and Bamgbose, 110 high hurdles, 18.9, finished fifth in their respective events. Completeing Fitchburg's top six performances were Santiago in thigh jump, 5' 2"; and Ramirez in the javelin, 108' 8".

The Red Raiders travel to Foley Stadium Thursday afternoon to take on Doherty Memorial with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Lose To North Middlesex

April 9, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team lost to North Middlesex Regional, 86-59, Monday afternoon in Townsend.

Ezra Brice led the way for the Red Raiders, capturing the triple jump, 37' 3", 100 meters, 12.6, while teaming with Ron Guy, Trey Mahone, and Toni Onikeku to finish first in the 400 relay with a time of 48.5. Onikeku was the other top performer for Fitchburg winning the high jump, 6', and 200 meters, 24.4. Othe first place performances were turned in by C.J. Jones, shot put, 42' 9.5"; and Tommy Duong, discus, 104' 8".

Second place performances were turned in by Montalvo, high jump, 5' 11", and pole vault, 8'; Gerardo Santiago, 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:04.5, and 110 high hurdles, 19.6; Hunter Sallila, shot put, 34' 9.5"; and Onikeku, long jump, 17' 2". Completeing the scoring with third place finishes were Jason Bugarin, two mile, 11:19.6, and pole vault, 8'; Jose Marrero, shot put, 33' 11", and discus, 86' 2"; Brice, long jump, 17' 1"; and Daune Daye, 110 high hurdles, 22.2.

The Red Raiders travel to Algonquin Regional Next Saturday morning to compete in the Mid-Wach League Freshmen-Sophomore Meet scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Open Up With Win Over Scarlet Hawks
Onikeku Shatters High Jump Record

April 5, 2012 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team opened up their season with an 86-59 win over the Milford Scarlet Hawks Thursday afternoon at Crocker Field.

Senior Toni Onikeku led the way for the Red Raiders, shattering the 40 year old high jump record held by Dan McDermott of 6' 5.5" set in 1972, when he cleared 6' 9" on his second attempt. Onikeku was also first in the 200 meters with a time of 23.4, and was part of the 400 meter relay team comprised of Marcus Diaz, Trey Mahone, and Ezra Brice, which finished first in 46.5. Brice was the other top performer for Fitchburg winning the long jump, 17' 5.5", triple jump, 35' 11.5', and the 100 meters, 11.6. Othe first place performances were turned in by Peter Montalvo, pole vault, 8'; C.J. Jones, shot put, 44' 9.5"; Tommy Duong, discus, 117' 11"; Jason Bugarin, two mile, 11;17.0; and Connor Lemieux, 400 meters, 57.3.

Second place performances were turned in by Montalvo, high jump, 5' 6", and 800 meters, 2:24.4; Gerardo Santiago, 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:06.9; Bugarin, pole vault, 8'; Duong, javelin, 123' 5"; Abbi Bamgbose, 110 high hurdles, 18.7, Christian Capoccia, mile, 5:02.0; and Lemieux, 200 meters, 24.1. Completeing the scoring with third place finishes were Bamgbose, triple jump, 34' .75', and long jump, 16' 8"; Connor Dufour, pole vault, 7'; Hunter Sallila, shot put, 34' 11"; Diaz, javelin, 120' 9"; and Brandon Felice, 800, 2:36.1.

The Red Raiders travel to North Middlesex Regional Monday after with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
