Red Raiders Finish Second At Central Massachusetts Weight Pentathlon
Team and Individual Records Broken

June 3, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team combined for a second place finish in the team standings at the 3rd Annual Central Massachusetts District E Weight Pentathlon, held Monday afternoon at Lunenburg High School. Forty-five male, and twenty-seven female athletes, representing twenty area high school teams competed in the meet that featured the 100 meters, discus, shot put, javelin, and 200 meters.

The Red Raiders' team comprised of senior Tommy Duong, 13th, 2,150 points, sophomores Marcos Diaz, 7th, 2,339 points, and Leo Ramirez, 11th, 2,168 points, combined for the team total of 6,657 points. Junior Jose Marrero, 22nd, 1,791 points, also represented Fitchburg in the meet. Records were set by Diaz in the javelin and 200 meters; and the shot put, Ramirez, while additional records were set for total team points, individual overall points and sophomore points, Diaz; senior points, Duong; and junior points, Ramirez.


Ramirez, Bamgbose, DiGeronimo, And Jones Represent Fitchburg At MIAA All-State Meet

June 1, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team were well represented at the MIAA All-State Meet held Saturday afternoon at Westfield State University.

The Red Raiders were led by the sixteenth place finish of Leo Ramirez, who put the shot 49' 4.25", while teammates Emmanuel Bamgbose finished eighteenth in the long jump, 19' 5.5"; Drew DiGeronimo, nineteenth in the javelin, 151'; and C.J. Jones in the shot put, twenty-second, 45' 7".

The Red Raiders weight men will travel to Lunenburg Monday afternoon to compete in the Weight Pentathlon scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Finish Tenth In MIAA Central/Western Division I Championship

May 27, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team finished in tenth place at the MIAA Central/Western Division I Championship Meet held Monday afternoon at Fitchburg State University.

The Red Raiders were led by the third place performances of Drew DiGeronimo in the javelin, 162' 11", and Leo Ramirez in the shot put, 49' 7.75". Emmanuel Bamgbose was another top performer for the Red Raiders, finishing fourth in the long jump 20' 7.5", and sixth in the triple jump, 42' 2.5". Also placing in the top eight were: C.J. Jones in the shot put, fourth, 48' 10.5"; Connor Lemieux in the 400 meters, seventh, 52.58; and Ezra Brice in the triple jump, eighth, 41' 3.5".

DiGeronimo, Ramirez, Bamgbose, and Jones, will represent Fitchburg in the MIAA All-State Meet Saturday afternoon at Westfield State University scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m.


Bamgbose, Bugarin, Lemieux, and Ramirez Selected Mid-Wach A All-Stars

May 21, 2013 - Senior Connor Lemieux and junior Emmanuel Bamgbose earned Mid-Wach All-Star status for their first place performances at the Mid-Wach A League Meet held at Crocker Field on May 18th. Also selected by opposing coaches were junior Jason Bugarin, and sophomore Leo Ramirez, for their outstanding contributions to the Fitchburg High School track & field team throughout the 2013 season.


Red Raiders Finish Fourth In Mid-Wach A

May 18, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team finished in fourth place at the Midland-Wachusett League A Championship Meet held Saturday at Crocker Field.

The Red Raiders were led by the first place performances of Connor Lemieux in the 400 meters, 51.71, and Emmanuel Bamgbose in the triple jump, 43' 2". Contributing with second place performances were Drew DiGeronimo, javelin, 160' 7"; Leo Ramirez, shot put, 51' 2.5"; Ezra Brice, triple jump, 40' 5"; Bamgbose, long jump, 20' 6.5"; and the 400 meter relay team comprised of Gegie Kukta, Bamgbose, Lemieux, and Brice, 45.49. Also placing in the top six were: the 1600 meter relay team comprised of DiGeronimo, Christian Capoccia, Josh Higgins, and Lemieux, third, 3:40.66; Marcos Diaz, fourth, javelin, 146' 7"; C.J. Jones, fourth, shot put, 46' 7.5", and fourth, discus, 117' 6"; Jason Bugarin, fourth, two mile, 10:18.67; Brice, sixth, long jump, 18' 3"; and the 3200 meter relay team comprised of Diaz, Jared Morcaldi, Higgins, and Ben Phaneuf, sixth, 9:41.18.

Fitchburg travels to Fitchburg State University Monday afternoon to compete in the MIAA Central/Western Division I Championship scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m.


Red Raiders Finish Eighth In Class A

May 11, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team finished in eighth place at the 52nd Annual "Fred Warren" District E Class A Meet held Saturday at Shrewsbury High School.

The Red Raiders were led by Leo Ramirez, who finished second in the shot put with a distance of 47' 2". Also placing in the top six were: Connor Lemieux, 400 meters, third, 52.21; Drew DiGeronimo, javelin, third, 151' 1"; Marcos Diaz, javelin, fourth, 144' 7"; the 1600 relay team comprised of DiGeronimo, Christian Capoccia, Josh Higgins, and Lemieux, fourth, 3:44.07; Capoccia, 800 meters, sixth, 2:06.56; and Jason Bugarin, two mile, sixth, 10:12.14.

Fitchburg hosts the Mid-Wach A Championship Meet this coming Saturday morning scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Mountaineers Defeat Red Raiders

May 7, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team was defeated by the Wachusett Mountaineers, 95 to 48, Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field. First place finishes went to the 400 meter relay team comprised of Gegie Kukta, Emmanuel Bamgbose, Connor Lemieux, and Ezra Brice, 45.1; Lemieux, 200 meters, 23.0; and Leo Ramirez, shot put, 46' 4".

Finishing second were Brice, 100 meters, 11.7; Drew DiGeronimo, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:05.2; C.J. Jones, shot put, 45' 7.75", and discus, 117' 10"; Manny Payton, high jump, 5' 4"; Bamgbose, long jump, 19' 8", Marcos Diaz, javelin, 151' 11"; and Jason Bugarin, mile, 4:51.8. Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Josh Higgins, two mile, 12:24.0, and 400 meters, 58.4; Christian Capoccia, 800 meters, 2:10.2; DiGeronimo, pole vault, 9' 6"; Kukta, long jump, 19' 7.5"; Tommy Duong, discus, 116' 2"; Bamgbose, triple jump, 40' 11.75", and 110 meter high hurdles, 16.5; and Ben Phaneuf, mile, 5:14.2.

Fitchburg travels to Shrewsbury Saturday morning to compete in the District Class A Championships scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Shrewsbury Defeats Red Raiders

May 4, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team was defeated by Shrewsbury, 92 to 53, Saturday afternoon at Colonial Field. First place finishes went to the 400 meter relay team comprised of Connor Lemieux, Marcos Diaz, Paul Duenas, and Ezra Brice, 47.1; Brice, triple jump, 39' 5.5"; Lemieux, 200 meters, 23.4; Leo Ramirez, shot put, 49' 11"; Christian Capoccia, 800 meters, 2:08.1; and the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Capoccia, Ben Phaneuf, Joshua Higgins, and Drew DiGeronimo, 4:09.4.

Finishing second were Duenas, 110 meter high hurdles, 18.4; Brice, long jump, 18' 7.5"; C.J. Jones, discus, 114' 10"; Higgins, 400 meters, 55.4; and DiGeronimo, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:05.2. Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Greg Santiago, 110 meter high hurdles, 22.6; Lemieux, high jump, 5' 6"; Diaz, javelin, 136' 4"; Brice, 100 meters, 11.7; Jones, shot put, 46' 2.5"; Tommy Duong, discus, 112' 11"; and Jason Bugarin, mile, 4:50.5, and pole vault, 9' 6".

Fitchburg hosts Wachusett Regional Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field with the meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Defeat Doherty Memorial

May 1, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team defeated Doherty Memorial, 91 to 54, Wednesday afternoon at Crocker Field. Fitchburg had four double winners in the meet as Emmanuel Bamgbose captured the long jump, 21', and triple jump, 41' 4"; Jason Bugarin captured the two mile, 10:46.8, and 800 meters, 2:15.8; Drew DiGeronimo, the pole vault, 10', and javelin, 144'; and Leo Ramirez, shot put, 48'1, and discus, 99' 1". Individual firsts went to the 400 meter relay team comprised of Gegie Kukta, Bamgbose, Paul Duenas, and Ezra Brice, 45.8; Brice, 100 meters, 11.4; and Christian Capoccia, mile, 4:53.7.

Finishing second were Manny Payton, high jump, 5' 8"; Brice, triple jump, 40' 8"; Bugarin, pole vault, 10'; Bamgbose, 110 meter high hurdles, 16.8; Marcos Diaz, 100 meters, 12.3, and javelin, 143' 5"; Jose Marrero, discus, 94' 9"; and Connor Lemieux, 400 meters, 53.3, and 200 meters, 23.5. Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Brice, long jump, 18' 10.5"; Nate Perkins, high jump, 5' 4"; Josh Higgins, pole vault, 6', and mile, 5:17.0; Mike Bourque, discus, 87' 2"; Marrero, shot put, 38' 3"; DiGeronimo, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:04.2; Ben Phaneuf, 2:18.9; and Diaz, 200 meters, 25.2.

Red Raiders Third At District E Division I Relays

April 27, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team ran to a third place finish at the 37th District E Robert Duncan Indivitational Relays held Saturday at St. John's (Shrewsbury), finishing with 61 points.

The Red Raiders came out of the field events with 48 points, capturing four first place team finishes. Finishing first was the long jump team comprised of Gegie Kukta, Ezra Brice, and Emmanuel Bamgbose, 53' 10.5"; the discus team comprised of C.J. Jones, Tommy Duong, and Jose Marrero, 331'; the javelin team comprised of Marcos Diaz, Drew DiGeronimo, and Connor Lemieux, 400'; and the shot put team comprised of Jones, Leo Ramirez, and Lemieux, 130' 8.5".

Completing the scoring by finishing in the top six was the triple jump team comprised of Bamgbose, Kukta, and Brice, 114' 9", second; the 400 relay team comprised of Kukta, Bamgbose, Lemieux, and Brice, 45.0, third; the 1600 meter relay team comprised of DiGeronimo, Christian Capoccia, Josh Higgins, and Lemieux, 3:41.0, third; the distance medley team comprised of Capoccia, Paul Duenas, Higgins, and Jason Bugarin, 11:36.9, sixth.

Also representing Fitchburg in the meet was the pole vault team comprised of DiGeronimo, Bugarin, and Connor Dufour, 24'; the 800 meter relay team comprised of Kukta, Bamgbose, Diaz, and Brice, 1:37.8; and the sprint medley team comprised of DiGeronimo, Duenas, Diaz, and Bugarin, 3:56.3.

Fitchburg hosts Doherty Memorial this Wednesday afternoon at Crocker Field scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.


Algonquin Regional Outruns Red Raiders

April 25, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team was defeated by Algonquin Regional yesterday afternoon, 93 to 52, in Northboro. Finishing first for Fitchburg were: Marcos Diaz, javelin, 144' 11"; Jason Bugarin, mile, 4:53.3; Christian Capoccia, 800 meters, 2:08.4; Connor Lemieux, 200 meters, 23.1; and the 400 meter relay team comprised of Gegie Kukta, Emmanuel Bamgbose, Lemieux, and Ezra Brice, 45.6.

Finishing second were: Brice, triple jump, 42' 7", and 100 meters, 11.5; Bamgbose, long jump, 20' 11", and 110 meter high hurdles, 17.8; C.J. Jones, discus, 109' 9"; Drew DiGeronimo, javelin, 131' 6", and 400 meters, 56.6; and Leo Ramirez, shot put, 48' 8". Completing the scoring by finishing third were Tommy Duong, discus, 102' 7"; Jones, shot put, 46' 6"; and DiGeronimo, pole vault, 9' 6".

Fitchburg travels to St. John's (Shrewsbury) Saturday morning to compete in the District E Division I Relays scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Perform Well At MWL Frosh/Soph Meet
Ramirez Captures Two Events

April 20, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' Freshmen/Sophomore outdoor track & field team turned in a number of top six performances at the Mid-Wach League Freshmen/Sophomore Meet held Saturday at Algonquin Regional in Northboro. The boys' were paced by Leo Ramirez, who captured first place in the shot put, 46' 6.5", and discus, 94'. Marcos Diaz also picked up a win, capturing the javelin with a throw of 134' 5". Joshua Higgins finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.9, while Ben Phaneuf had a solid day, finishing fifth in the mile, 5:20.6, and sixth in the 800 meters, 2:21.2. Greg Santiago was Fitchburg's other top six performer, capturing fifth in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 21.5.

Also representing Fitchburg in the meet were: Michael Bourque, shot put, 29' 7", and discus, 79' 4"; Santiago, long jump, 10' 8.75", and 100 meters, 12.8; Tommy Borchelt, 100 meters, 13.1; Diaz, 200 meters, 25.6; and Higgins, two mile, 12:17.9.

Fitchburg travels back to Algonquin Regional Tuesday afternoon for a dual meet scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.


Red Raiders Roll Over Blue Devils

April 18, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team rolled over arch-rival Leominster, 92 to 53, Thursday morning at Crocker Field. Fitchburg had three double winners in the meet as Emmanuel Bamgbose captured the 110 meter high hurdles, 17.5, and high jump, 5' 6"; Connor Lemieux picked up wins in the 400 meters, 51.6, and 200 meters, 22.7; and Ezra Brice was victorious in the long jump, 20' 3", and triple jump, 42' 3". Individual wins went to Drew DiGeronimo, pole vault, 9' 6"; Jason Bugarin, two mile, 10:25.7; Marcos Diaz, javelin, 140' 5"; Leo Ramirez, shot put, 47' 9.5"; Tommy Duong, discus, 110' 5"; Ben Phaneuf, mile, 5:16.3; and Christian Capoccia, 800 meters, 2:16.1.

Finishing second were Bugarin, pole vault, 8' 6"; C.J. Jones, discus, 105' 4", and shot put, 46' 8"; Paul Duenas, 110 meter high hurdles, 18.1, and 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:12.4; DiGeronimo, 400 meters, 55.4, and javelin, 138' 11". Completing the scoring with third place finishes were Connor Dufour, pole vault, 7'; Lemieux, javelin, 120' 7"; Jose Marrero, shot put, 36' .5", and discus, 103' 3", Duenas, high jump, 4' 8"; and Greg Santiago, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:18.4.

Fitchburg travels to Algonquin Saturday morning to compete in the Mid-Wach League Freshmen/Sophomore Meet scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Open Up The Season With A Win

April 9, 2013 - The Fitchburg High School boys' outdoor track & field team opened up it's season Tuesday afternoon with a win over North Middlesex Regional, 76 to 63, at Crocker Field. Fitchburg was led by Ezra Brice, who captured the long jump, 20' 1.5", triple jump, 41' 6", and the 100 meters, 11.5. Individual first place performances were turned in by Manny Payton, high jump, 5' 6"; Jose Marrero, discus, 102'; Leo Ramirez, shot put, 46' 6"; Drew DiGeronimo, javelin, 153' 6"; Gerardo Santiago, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:02.0; Christian Capoccia, 800 meters, 2:07.4; and Connor Lemieux, 200 meters, 22.9.

Finishing second for the Red Raiders were: Emmanuel Bamgbose, triple jump, 35' 11.5", and 110 meter high hurdles, 16.9; Jason Bugarin, two mile, 10:52.0, and pole vault, 9'; Santiago, high jump, 5' 6"; Lemieux, shot put, 37' 7"; and Josh Higgins, 400 meters, 55.7. Completing the scoring with third place performances were: C.J. Jones, discus, 92' 6"; Marrero, shot put, 37' 3"; Lemieux, javelin, 133'; Paul Duenas, 110 meter high hurdles, 17.8; and Caleb Neilon, 400 meter intermediate hurdles, 1:08.0.

Fitchburg hosts Leominster next Thursday morning with that meet scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.
