2004 Cross Country Luncheon

November 20, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team celebrated the conclusion of the 2004 cross country season Saturday afternoon at a luncheon reception held at Slattery’s Restaurant.

Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were senior Craig Fiore, who received the Most Valuable Runner, along with the annual Mark Gionet Award for the first Fitchburg High School runner versus Leominster; the Most Improved Runner, which went to sophomore Devan Glenny, who has improved his personal record on the 2.9 mile Coggshall course from 20:23 to 18:20, a cumulative improvement of 2:03 over two seasons; the Coach's Award went to senior Phil McCormack for his leadership and commitment to the team; and the Freshman Award, which went to first year runner Eric Faucher.

These athletes, along with senior Mark Delibertis; juniors Mike Carbone, Mike Bellio, Will Schuerman, Mike Dateo, and Kris Maillet; and sophomores Garrett Malouin, Chris Coleman, and James Ball, all received certificates of recognition for their hard work and dedication to Fitchburg High School cross country.

Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate his team and everyone else who contributed to the team's success throughout the 2004 season.


Red Raiders Finish Eighth At District E, Division I Championships

November 15, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team ran to an eighth place finish at the District E, Division I Cross Country Championships held Monday afternoon at the Gardner Golf Course.

Leading the way for Fitchburg over the 2.9 mile course was senior Craig Fiore, who finished twenty-seventh in 16:23. Senior Phil McCormack, forty-second, 16:45; junior Mike Carbone, fiftieth, 16:57; senior Mark Delibertis, sixtieth, 17:14; junior Mike Bellio, eighty-sixth, 17:47, completed the team scoring. Sophomore Devan Glenny, one-hundred and three, 18:17, and junior Will Schuerman, one-hundred and seven, 18:27, comprised the rest of the varsity team representing the Red Raiders.


Red Raiders Finish Sixth At Mid-Wach A Championships

October 30, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team ran to a sixth place finish at the Mid-Wach A League Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at the Clark University cross country course in Boylston.

Leading the way for Fitchburg in the Varsity A Race over the 5k course was junior Mike Carbone, who finished thirteenth in 18:06. Seniors Craig Fiore, eighteenth, 18:13, and Phil McCormack, twenty-fifth, 18:36; junior Mike Bellio, thirtieth, 18:45; sophomores Devan Glenny, thirty-fifth, 19:09, and Chris Coleman, forty-sixth, 20:29; and junior Mike Dateo, forty-seventh, 20:55, comprised the rest of the varsity team.

Also representing Fitchburg in the All-Class Junior Varsity Race was freshman Eric Faucher, who finished one-hundred and thirty-eighth in 24:40.

The Red Raiders will take the next two weeks to train and prepare for the Central Massachusetts State Qualifier to be held Saturday, November 13, at the Gardner Golf Course, with the Division I race scheduled to go off at 10:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Finish Sixth At Wachusett Invitational
For Second Consecutive Year

October 23, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team ran to a sixth place finish for the second consecutive year at the Forty-Eighth Annual Wachusett Invitational Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at Wachusett Regional High School.

In the Class A 2.4 mile Varsity Race the Red Raiders were led by Craig Fiore, who finished twentieth, 13:32. Mike Carbone, twenty-fourth, 13:41; Phil McCormack, thirty-second, 13:54; Will Schuerman, fortieth, 14:15; Devan Glenny, fifty-first, 14:40; Mike Bellio, fifty-fourth, 14:43; and Chris Coleman, sixtieth, 14:55; completed the team scoring for Fitchburg.

In the All-Freshmen Race Eric Faucher was sixtieth in 17:26. In the Junior High Race the top runners for the Fitchburg Middle School cross country team were Josh Reynolds, who finished seventy-first in 9:35; and Cameron Trodello, who finished eighty-ninth in 10:16.

The Red Raiders travel to Boylston this Saturday morring to compete in the Mid-Wach A Cross Country Championships, with the boys’ varsity race scheduled to get underway at 11:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Finish Up Dual Meet Season
With A Win

October 12, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School boys’ cross country team completed their dual meet season on the winning side, defeating Oakmont Regional, 23-32, at the Spartans' home course.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders over the 2.8 mile course were Garrett Malouin, 17:00, Craig Fiore, 17:01, Mike Carbone, 17:14, and Mark Delibertis, 17:15, sweeping second through fifth place. Will Schuerman finished ninth in 18:12, to complete the scoring, and clinch the meet.

Also running well for Fitchburg were Devan Glenny, eleventh, 18:39; Mike Dateo, fourteenth, 19:35; Chris Coleman, fifteenth, 19:48; and Kris Maillet, seventeenth, 20:31.

The Red Raiders travel to Wachusett Regional on Saturday, October 23, to compete in the Wachusett Invitational with the Class A race scheduled to get underway at 10:45 a.m.


Red Raiders Earn First Win Of The Season
Upsetting The Shrewsbury Colonials

October 8, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School boys’ cross country team earned their first win of the season, upsetting Mid-Wach A rival, Shrewsbury, 22-33, at Coggshall Park.

Leading the Red Raiders over the 2.9 mile course was Phil McCormack, who finished in a season best 16:53. Craig Fiore, third, 16:54; Mike Carbone, fourth, 17:16; Garrett Malouin, fifth, 17:21; and Mark Delibertis, eighth, 17:39; completed the scoring for Fitchburg.

Also running well for the Red Raiders were Will Schuerman, eleventh, 18:15; Devon Glenny, thirteenth, 18:20; Chris Coleman, fifteenth, 18:28; Mike Dateo, eighteenth, 19:36; Kris Maillet, twentieth, 20:04; and Eric Faucher, twenty-ninth, 22:48.

The Red Raiders travel to Oakmont next Tuesday afternoon with the race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Compete In McIntyre Invite

October 2, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team ran to a 24th place finish out of forty teams at the 13th Annual Bob McIntyre Cross Country Bay State Invitational Meet held Saturday morning at Franklin Park in Boston. In the 5k Varsity Division I race the team of Craig Fiore, 106th, 18:15; Phil McCormack, 145th, 18:45; Mark Delibertis, 141st, 18:40; Mike Carbone, 157th, 19:01; Chris Coleman, 206th, 19:58; Will Schuerman, 207th, 19:58; and Mike Bellio, 211th, 20:05; combined for the team score.

In the 5k Junior Varsity Division I race Kris Maillet finished 248th in 22:00, while Eric Faucher finished 169th in the 3k Freshmen Division I race in 14:07.

The Red Raiders host Shrewsbury this Friday afternoon with that race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Blue Devils Slip By Red Raiders

September 30, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team saw their record fall to 0-5, losing to arch-rival Leominster, 27-28, Thursday afternoon on the Blue Devils home course.

Craig Fiore, 16:47, first, and Mike Carbone, second, 17:01, led the way for Fitchburg over the 2.9 mile course. Teammates Garrett Malouin, seventh, 17:35; Mark Delibertis, eighth, 17:48; and Devan Glenny, tenth, completed the scoring for the Red Raiders.

Also running well for Fitchburg were Chris Coleman, twelth, 18:19; Will Schuerman, thirteenth, 18:24; Phil McCormack, fourteenth, 18:30; Mike Bellio, fifteenth, 18:38; Mike Dateo, eighteenth, 19:43; James Ball, nineteenth, 20:11; Kris Maillet, twentieth, 20:15; and Eric Faucher, twenty-eighth, 23:07.

The Red Raiders travel to Franklin Park Saturday morning to compete in the 13th Annual Bob McIntyre Baystate Cross Country Invitational Meet with the first race scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.


Red Raiders Edged Again

September 27, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team was edged out once again by a Mid-Wach A rival, losing to the North Middlesex Patriots, 26-29, Monday afternoon at Coggshall Park.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders was Craig Fiore, who finished third in 17:06. Teammates Mike Carbone, fourth, 17:20; Phil McCormack, fifth, 17:32; Devan Glenny, eighth, 18:41; and Mike Bellio, ninth, 18:51, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg.

Also running well for Fitchburg were Will Schuerman, twelfth, 19:27; Mike Dateo, fourteenth, 20:09; Kris Maillet, seventeenth, 21:20; and Eric Faucher, twenty-fifth, 23:44.

The Red Raiders travel to Leominster this Thursday afternoon with the race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Mountaineers Hold Off Red Raiders

September 24, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team dropped their third dual meet in a row to defending District E and Mid-Wach A Champions, Wachusett Regional, 20-39, at Coggshall Park Friday afternoon.

Leading the way against the Mountaineers over the 2.9 mile course was Mike Carbone, who finished third in 16:58. Craig Fiore, 17:11, sixth; Phil McCormack, 17:29, seventh; Chris Coleman, 18:49, thirteenth; and Mike Bellio, 19:23, twentieth, rounded out Fitchburg’s top five.

Also running well for the Red Raiders were James Ball, 20:10, twenty-first; Devan Glenny, 20:14, twenty-second; Kris Maillet, 20:41, twenty-fifth; Mike Dateo, 21:31, thirty-third; and Eric Faucher, 23:55, thirty-ninth.

The Red Raiders host North Middlesex Regional Monday afternoon with that race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Swept Away

September 21, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team suffered their second loss of the season Tuesday afternoon, as Algonquin Regional swept the top six spots, defeating the Red Raiders, 15-50, on the Tomahawks’ home course.

Leading the way over the 3.1 mile course for the Red Raiders were Craig Fiore, 19:43, seventh; Phil McCormack, 19:53, ninth; Mike Carbone, 20:15, eleventh; Will Schuerman, 21:19, fourteenth; and Devan Glenny, 21:20, fifteenth; to round out Fitchburg’s top five runners.

Also running well for Fitchburg were Chris Coleman, 21:41, eighteenth; Mike Bellio, 21:56, twenty-second; Mike Dateo, 22:08, twenty-third; Jamie Ball, 22:27, twenty-fourth; and Eric Faucher, 25:31, forty-seventh.

The Red Raiders host Wachusett Regional this Friday afternoon at Coggshall Park with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Edged Out By Scarlet Hawks In Season Opener

September 15, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team was defeated by Milford in it’s season opener, 27-30, in a closely contested dual meet run on the Scarlet Hawk’s home course.

Leading the way for Fitchburg was junior Mike Carbone, who finished first over the 2.85 mile course in 15:20; while seniors Craig Fiore, fourth, 15:34; Phil McCormack,sixth, 15:47; and Mark Delibertis, 15:56, gave Fitchburg four of the top seven spots in the meet.

Also running well for the Red Raiders were Chris Coleman, fifteenth, 17:30; Devan Glenny, sixteenth, 17:37; Will Schuerman, eighteenth, 17:51; Mike Bellio, nineteenth, 17:55; Mike Dateo, twentieth, 18:04; Jim Ball, twenty-second, 18:34; Kris Maillet, twenty-third, 18:49; and Eric Faucher, thirtieth, 21:20.

The Red Raiders travel to Algonquin Regional next Tuesday afternoon with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
