2007 Cross Country Luncheon

November 10, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team celebrated the conclusion of the 2007 cross country season Saturday afternoon at a luncheon reception held at Slattery’s Restaurant.

Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were sophomore Chris Carbone, who received the Most Valuable Runner; and the annual Mark Gionet Award for the first Fitchburg High School runner versus Leominster; the Most Improved Runner, went to freshman Jon Vander Hamm, who improved his personal record on the 2.9 mile Coggshall course from 25:43 to 23:25, a cumulative improvement of 2:18 in only one season; the Coach's Award went to junior Cameron Trodello for his dedication and commitment to the team; and the Freshman Award, which went to Dan Finn.

These athletes, along with senior Jamie Matias; juniors Brian Fitzgibbons and Jordon Porter; sophomores Tyler Boudreau, Nick Balaguer, and Patrick Hodges; freshmen Saad Chaudhary, and Mike Gross, all received certificates of recognition for their hard work and dedication to Fitchburg High School cross country.

Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate his team, and everyone else who contributed to the team's success throughout the 2007 season.


Red Raiders Finish Twenty-Third At District E,Division I Championship

November 10, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team ran to a twenty-third place finish at the District E, Division I Cross Country Championship held Saturday morning at the Gardner Golf Course.

Leading the way for Fitchburg over the 2.9 mile course was sophomore Chris Carbone, who finished 122nd in 18:02.3. Senior Jamie Matias, 141st, 18:50.1; sophomore Patrick Hodges, 155th, 19:55.6; freshman Mike Gross, 157th, 20:11.3; sophomore Tyler Boudreau, 158th, 20:21.3; freshman Dan Finn, 159th, 20:29.6; and junior Cameron Trodello, 160th, 20:31.2, combined for the team score in the meet.


Red Raiders Finish Seventh at Mid-Wach A Championships

October 27, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team ran to a seventh place finish Saturday morning at the Mid-Wach A Championship Meet held at Ghiloni Park in Marlborough. The Red Raiders place in the meet earned them seventh place overall in the league standings.

Leading the way for Fitchburg in the Varsity A Race over the 5k course was sophomore Chris Carbone, who finished thirty-third in 19:55.3. Senior Jamie Matias, thirty-eighth, 20:52.8; sophomores Patrick Hodges, forty-third, 22:10.4; Tyler Boudreau, forty-fourth, 22:12.0; freshman Dan Finn, forty-sixth, 22:19.8; juniors Cameron Trodello, forty-eighth, 22:35.3; and Brian Fitzgibbons, forty-ninth, 25:08.8, comprised the rest of the varsity team.

Representing Fitchburg in the All-Class Junior Varsity Race were freshmen Michael Gross, one-hundred and thirty-eighth, 24:54.4; and Jonathan Vander Hamm, one-hundred and forty-first, 25:12.4.

The Red Raiders travel to the Gardner Golf Course to compete in the District Championship on Saturday, November 10, with the Division I race scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Finish Thirteenth At Wachusett Invitational

October 20, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team ran to a thirteenth place finish at the 51st Annual Wachusett Invitational Cross Country Championships held Saturday afternoon at Wachusett Regional High School in Holden.

In the Class A 2.4 mile Varsity Race the Red Raiders were led by Jamie Matias, who finished seventy-fourth, 15:17.6. Chris Carbone, eighty-fourth, 16:25.2; Patrick Hodges, eighty-fifth, 16:43.1; Tyler Boudreau, eighty-sixth, 17:43.3; and Nick Balaguer, eighty-seventh,19:17.6; completed the team scoring for Fitchburg. In the All-Freshmen Race Dan Finn was fifty-seventh in 17:19.7, Jon Vander Hamm was seventy-eighth in 18:52.3, and Mike Gross finished seventy-eighth in 19:40.8.

The Red Raiders travel to Marlboro’s Ghiloni Park Saturday morning to compete in the Mid-Wach A Cross Country Championships, with the boys’ varsity race scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.


Red Raiders Lose Final To Patriots

October 16, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team lost their final dual meet of the season to the North Middlesex Patriots, 15-47, Tuesday afternoon at the Patriot’s 3 mile course.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders was Chris Carbone, who finished sixth in 18:50. Teammates Jamie Matias, eighth, 19:22; Patrick Hodges, twelfth, 21:24; Cameron Trodello, thirteenth, 21:29; and Jordon Porter, fifteenth, 22:15, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg.

Also running well were Michael Gross, seventeenth, 23:11; Jon Vander Hamm, nineteenth, 24:33; Johnathan Theang, twentieth, 24:33; and Nick Balaguer, twenty-first, 25:21.

Fitchburg travels to Wachusett Regional this Saturday morning to compete in the Fiftieth Annual Wachusett Invitational X-Country Meet with the Freshmen race scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Run Well In McIntyre Invitational

October 13, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team turned in a number of fine performances at the 16th Annual Bob McIntyre Cross Country Bay State Invitational Meet held Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston. In the 5k Varsity Division I race the Red Raiders were represented by Jamie Matias, 289th, 19:46; Tyler Boudreau, 332nd, 21:41; Patrick Hodges, 334th, 22:05; and Cameron Trodello, 336th, 22:11.

In the 5k Junior Varsity Division I race Nick Balaguer finished 328th, 23:17; while Johnathan Theang finished 355th, 24:49. In the 3k Freshmen Division I race, Dan Finn finished 96th, 12:32; Mike Gross, 148th, 13:17; and Jon Vander Hamm, 336th, 14:23.

Fitchburg travels to North Middlesex Regional Tuesday afternoon with that race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Mountaineers Hand Red Raiders Their Fifth Loss

October 9, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team lost their fifth dual meet of the season, losing to Mid-Wach A rival, Wachusett Regional, 16-47, on the Mountaineers’ 3.1 mile home course.

Fitchburg was lead by Chris Carbone, who finished fifth with a time of 19:24. Rounding out the top five for the Red Raiders were Jamie Matias, twelfth, 20:49; Patrick Hodges, fifteenth, 22:06; Cameron Trodello, sixteenth, 22:12; and Dan Finn, seventeenth, 22:50. Also running well for the Red Raiders were Tyler Boudreau, eighteenth, 23:29; Jordon Porter, nineteenth, 23:41; Brian Fitzgibbons, twenty-second, 25:29; Michael Gross, twenty-third, 25:36; and Johnathan Theang, twenty-fourth, 25:42.

The Red Raiders travel to Franklin Park this Saturday to compete in the McIntyre-Baystate Invitational scheduled to get underway 12:20 p.m.


Red Raiders Fall To Tomahawks

October 2, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team saw their record fall to 0-4, losing to the Algonquin Regional Tomahawks, 18-45, Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park.

Chris Carbone led the Red Raiders with a career best on the 2.9 mile course, finishing third in 17:12, while teammates Patrick Hodges, eighteenth, 19:53; Cameron Trodello, twenty-seventh, 20:37; Tyler Boudreau, thirty-third, 20:55; and Jordon Porter, thirty-fourth, 21:03, rounded out Fitchburg’s top five.

Also running well were Dan Finn, thirty-fifth, 21:05; Mike Gross, forty-first, 22:36; Brian Fitzgibbons, forty-second, 22:49; Johnathan Theang, forty-third, 22:54; Jon Vander Hamm, forty-fifth, 23:25; and Saad Chaudhary, forty-seventh, 28:18.

Fitchburg travels to the Thomas Prince School in Princeton next Tuesday for a dual meet versus Wachusett Regional with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Red Raiders Fall To Milford

September 25, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team were defeated by the Milford, 18-45, Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park.

Leading the way for Fitchburg was sophomore Chris Carbone, who finished third over the 2.9 mile course in 17:38; while teammates Patrick Hodges, eleventh, 20:37; Cameron Trodello, thirteenth, 20:58; Daniel Finn, sixteenth, 21:18; and Tyler Boudreau,eighteenth, 21:49, rounding out the top five for the Red Raiders.

Also running well for Fitchburg were Jordon Porter, twenty-first, 22:10; Brian Fitzgibbons, twenty-second, 23:41; Mike Gross, twenty-third, 23:51; Johnathan Theang, twenty-fifth, 24:05; Jon Vander Hamm, thirty-third, 26:05; and Saad Chaudhary, thirty-sixth, 30:58.

The Red Raiders host Algonquin Regional next Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park with the race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.


Shrewsbury Outruns Red Raiders

September 18, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team saw it’s record fall to 0-2, losing to unbeaten Shrewsbury, 15-50, Tuesday afternoon on the Colonials' 3.1 mile home course.

Finishing ninth in the race was Chris Carbone, who covered the distance in 20:26, while teammates Jamie Matias, eighteenth, 22:16; Patrick Hodges, twenty-third; Cameron Trodello, twenty-fourth, 23:27; and Dan Finn, twenty-sixth, 22:56; rounded out the top five for Fitchburg. Also running well for the Red Raiders were Jordon Porter, twenty-seventh, 24:42; Tyler Boudreau, twenty-sixth, 26:49; Brian Fitzgibbons, thirty-second, 28:39; and Jon Vander Hamm, thirty-third, 29:25.

The Red Raiders host Milford next coming Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park with the race scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.


Blue Devils Outrun Red Raiders

September 13, 2007 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team was defeated by arch-rival Leominster, 17-46, on the Red Raiders’ 2.9 mile home course at Coggshall Park Thursday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders was Chris Carbone, who finished fourth in 18:19. Teammates Patrick Hodges, tenth, 20:34; Tyler Boudreau, twelfth, 20:54; Cameron Trodello, thirteenth, 21:40; and Mike Gross, fourteenth, 21:52, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg.

Also running well were Dan Finn, eighteenth, 22:16; Jordon Porter, twenty-second, 23:57; Brian Fitzgibbons, twenty-third, 25:22; Jon Vanderham, twenty-fourth, 25:43; and Saad Chaudhary, twenty-seventh, 30:12.

Fitchburg travels to Shrewsbury High School next Tuesday afternoon with that meet scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.
